It’s all about relationships! Major gifts are the foundation of any fund development plan, regardless of an organization’s mission or scope. But they don’t just happen. Building strong relationships with donors with the inclination and capacity to make major gifts is key. But who are those donors? – and how do you get from here to there? In the first half of this workshop, we will consider what a major donor looks like for your organization; and discuss how to evaluate, cultivate and solicit your prospective donor. We will also explore how to secure those visits; great questions to ask during the visit; and how and when to ask.

Part two will be hands-on, looking at real-life major gift scenarios and discussing dilemmas and approaches. Please come prepared with your own case study – either a real major gift scenario from your own experience, or a composite case that is representative for your organization – along with your questions. The presenter, Richelle Ogle, will also bring a few cases for consideration. Richelle Ogle’s front-line fundraising experience spans more than 25 years, much of it focused on securing major gifts. She has raised resources for organizations across the mission spectrum, from education and the arts, to international children’s health, public broadcasting, and social justice.

**This workshop is part of the Advanced Topics on Fundraising Series.
