Description
The Clinical Creative Art Therapist is centered in strong artistic and therapeutic practice and has the desire to share their skills and knowledge for the benefit of students and community members. The art therapist will be responsible for art therapy programming in three traditional schools and up to three Exceptional Student Education (ESE) centers throughout Duval County. In addition, the art therapist will provide mentoring and support to current CAP teaching artists who are working in integrated classrooms and may have moderate to little experience with students with varying exceptionalities, including ESE and Emotional/Behavioral Disability (EBD) students or other populations.
The Clinical Creative Art Therapist will be employed as a full-time employee of CAP and will report to the Vice President of Strategy & Operations. This position has an anticipated start date of September 2023.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Classroom Facilitation • Lead art therapy groups at 6-7 sites. Groups will have no more than 10 students. Sites may include traditional public or charter school campuses, community centers and similar locations. • Demonstrate mastery of the skills, knowledge and practices of art therapy through original directives; make relevant connections to individual development plans; be willing to creatively adapt and implement as needed for student growth. • Implement adaptive, positive, respectful and trauma-informed behavioral interventions geared toward helping students achieve appropriate outlets for self-expression, sensory integration and emotional regulation. • Collaborate with on-site staff, such as occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, physical therapists, or school counselors to create art directives that enhance both therapeutic and educational goals. • Define, evaluate and establish measurable therapeutic goals and objectives that can be implemented in the classroom to support student learning. • Work with school counselors to help identify students who should be selected for school-based art therapy groups. Training Curriculum Development • Serve as the lead curriculum developer for ESE training at CAP. • Assist in the creation of a training manual and activties addressing best practices for integrated classrooms for all CAP teaching artists fellows. • Provide training and support for all teaching artists, interns and volunteers to ensure students of all abilities are enjoying high quality inclusive instruction. Administrative • Maintain accurate and complete student records including attendance, pre- and post-program assessments, student surveys and other evaluations as necessary. • Prepare reports on students and activities as requested by other departments or specific grantors. Information about classroom activities may be shared on social media, print media, blog posts, etc. in support of CAP’s strategic initiatives. Professional Development • Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence. Seek out opportunities for professional growth in areas of pedagogy, classroom management, therapy certifications, clinical supervision, art therapist and/or licensed mental health counseling credentials, new specialties within the artform, and other related areas. • Develop lasting connections with community leaders, nonprofit professionals, clinicians, educators and artists throughout the Jacksonville community. Special Events • Provide support during occasional special events to include student showcases and Spring for the Arts. • Prepare student exhibitions for events, provide content for written communications and attend speaking engagements on behalf of CAP to assist with the organization’s development efforts.
Qualifications
• Desire and drive to expand art therapy and arts education experience and skills. • Strong organizational and time management skills. • Excellent written and oral communication skills. • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively within a team as well as independently. • Ability to think creatively. Develop, design and create new ideas, relationships, systems, ideas and artistic contributions. • Ability to maintain a positive ‘can do’ attitude; be proactive, flexible, and show initiative with projects, planning, and all activities related to this position. • Commitment to CAP’s vision, goals and core values.
Education and Experience
• Master’s degree in art therapy, education, art or related field, or at least two years of experience working in a related field preferred. At a minimum, candidates should be pursuing a degree in art therapy. • Experience implementing art therapy curriculum. • Reliable transportation to and from CAP offices and program sites. • Experience using Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Classroom as platforms for virtual learning. • Experience working with children in a structured learning environment. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word and Excel. • Dedication to personal and professional development. • Must hold a valid driver’s license. • Pass official Level 2 background check as outlined by Florida state law and complete mandatory sexual misconduct, cultural diversity, trauma-informed education, and CPR/first aid trainings.
Salary/Salary Range
• Position is a full-time exempt role with a salary range of $52,000-$62,000, commensurate with experience. • Position is eligible for annual merit increase of up to 6% and annual performance bonus up to 3%. • Medical (PPO or HMO), dental and vision insurance available, with CAP covering 75% of the costs of individual medical insurance. • Opportunity to participate in organization’s 403(b) retirement savings plan. • Generous paid time off, including 21 days of PTO, 24 paid holidays and a flexible, family-friendly schedule. • Paid parking in a central downtown location. • Reimbursement for work-related mileage incurred. • Tenured benefit opportunities include professional development, personal wellness credits and paid parental leave after one year.
