Our Literacy division is seeking AmeriCorps Members for the 2022-2023 school year. Members will serve as reading tutors and role models in Duval County Public Schools. The tutor will also attend team meetings, participate in community service projects, and extensive workshops and on-going training. Tutors will work closely with the classroom teachers, school staff, families, and students to ensure improvement and increase in reading levels for assigned students.

CIS Literacy AmeriCorps members help students get on track to graduate by providing academic support, delivering behavior/ attendance coaching, & encouraging student engagement • Academic Support: Plan tutoring sessions, provide one-on-one/ small group literacy and math tutoring before & after school; partner with teachers and school staff to create and facilitate academic and learning events; regularly document students’ academic progress • Attendance and Positive Behavior Encouragement: Lead morning greetings, make attendance and positive phone calls to home, facilitate small group and one-to-one social-emotional skills development programs. AmeriCorps members serve at various locations in Jacksonville, FL depending on their preference and the area of needs.

Essential duties and responsibilities

· Tutors a student in the prescribed subject matter · Reinforces and supplements the lessons taught by the teacher · Helps a student to improve his or her study skills · Enhances the student\'s self-esteem through providing a supportive and attentive relationship · Calls the student before major tests to encourage success · Serves as a student\'s role model and motivator, in some cases · Shows the students how to make and achieve realistic goals · Meets with the student\'s teacher regularly (at least once per quarter) · Registers in the school office at the beginning and end of each workday · Notifies the project director and the student if unable to honor a tutoring appointment or if delayed · Attends any general tutor/teacher meetings called by CIS · Participates in staff meetings as a member of the multidisciplinary team, when asked to do so · Performs all other related duties as assigned


-GED or High School Diploma -Must be able to commit the rest of the school year -Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills -Proficiency in pertinent subject matter -Have experience tutoring in one or more of these areas.

Salary/Salary Range

Full-time: $15,300 annual rate, health insurance and childcare benefits, and $6,195 Education award. Part-time: $8,100 annual rate and $3,097.50 Education award.
