Congregation Ahavath Chesed is a warm and dynamic Reform Jewish Temple with approximately 500 families located in Jacksonville, Florida.
We are seeking an engaging, inspiring and responsible adult to build community and facilitate events and programs for Youth Group students. This person will be a partner for and collaborator with our Temple’s Religious School, Temple Institute of Religion (TIR), assisting clergy, education staff and lay leaders in empowering students to access their Jewish identities and deepening their connections to the Temple community. The successful candidate will be a charismatic, energetic individual with great organizational skills and flexibility who can envision creative approaches to engage our youth of all ages and their parents.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Job Responsibilities ● Plan and oversee Youth Group programming for grades K-12, with a special focus on JAFTY (9th-12th grade), JAFTY 678 (6th-8th grades), and JAFTY 345 (3rd-5th grades) ● Coordinate Madrichim program, teaching classroom aides needed skills, assigning classrooms, and providing a consistent experience ● Leadership training for post-B’nai Mitzvah students, both general skills and skills needed for JAFTY Board positions ● Teach post-B’nai Mitzvah class ● Outreach to unengaged teens and their parents ● Create and distribute marketing materials for Youth Group and Youth Engagement events including flyers, social media posts, email and other electronic media, and collaboration with local groups ● Maintain regular communication with Youth Group members and parents; provide promotional materials for events ● Recruit students to participate in Youth Programming and run for the JAFTY Board ● Foster relationships with TIR students and families, during and outside of school hours ● Help JAFTY maintain a connection with NFTY and NFTY-SAR, and attend NFTY and NFTY-SAR programs, including retreats, with students when applicable ● Assist with and accompany rabbi on High School weekend trip ● Participate in any events related to teens/post-B’nai Mitzvah ● Attend certain Shabbat services, B’nai Mitzvah and holidays ● Collaborate with local organizations where applicable ● Be a Jewish role model
Minimum overall skills and requirements ● Bachelor’s degree completed or in-process ● Understanding of and commitment to the mission and values of our Temple and the Reform Movement ● Ability to communicate patiently and sensitively with students, parents, colleagues, and Temple community ● Self-starter with creativity and desire to innovate ● Organizational and project-management skills ● Computer savvy, including social media, Canva and Google Suite ● A vehicle and/or willingness to travel to and from Temple and events ● Work about ten hours a week, while facilitating youth events, and during school hours on Sundays Schedule and Compensation ● Pay: $25/hour ● Approximately 10 hours a week ● Sundays 8:30am-1:30pm; other hours flexible ● Email resumes to firstname.lastname@example.org
