Habitat for Humanity of Jacksonville, Inc. (HabiJax) is currently seeking an individual for our newly created Director of Strategic Planning and Initiatives position. We are looking for a candidate with strong business, organizational planning, and project management skills who has a heart for helping families and individuals in need of a hand up to build or improve a place they can call home. HabiJax is the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a global nonprofit housing organization seeking to put God’s love into action by bringing people together to build safe, affordable homes, communities and hope.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Proactively identifies and evaluates emerging industry trends and growth opportunities, including competitive threats, the viability of outside strategic business partners, new earned income streams and sources of capital. - Directs strategic planning process and facilitates integration into the annual operating budget and plan with the management team. - Generates reports and presentations to communicate strategic plans and concepts to organization leadership, including the management team and the Board of Directors, and to potential funders. - Drive identification of requirements across business units and identify substandard systems processes through evaluation of real-time data. - Serve as thought leader for technical business processes, developing forward-thinking systems prototypes that promote increased efficiency and productivity on multiple levels. - Create and implement precise management plans for every project, with attention to transparent communication at all levels. - Lead and direct cross-organizational operational projects and strategic initiatives to ensure appropriate collaboration and communication between departments. - Develop, manage, and facilitate project planning activities to include the development of RACI charts, Gantt charts, and other project management tools to help determine and create project deliverables, timelines, and accountabilities. - Project management of real estate development and other operational initiatives. - Manages annual strategic plan updates including status reviews of organizational goals and objectives to identify roadblocks to progress. - Leads the management team in developing, communicating, executing, and sustaining strategic initiatives. - Identifies, evaluates and negotiates with prospective strategic partners to support existing programs and drive new initiatives. - Serves as an internal resource to the management team and staff individually and in work groups to address operational challenges. - Facilitates discussions with the management team to develop budgets/policies/procedures to support functional infrastructure to improve efficiency and/or support growth. - Drives new initiatives and earned income concepts through feasibility analysis, development and testing for proof of concept. - Work with a variety of departments across the organization and act as a point person in coordinating operational projects and strategic initiatives. - Lead change management plans and activities for changes. - Advocates the organization’s position with relevant constituents, including local political/planning leadership and community groups, and drives broader awareness and donor support for the organization in collaboration with the Community Partnerships and senior management. - Organize and lead discussions to identify and prioritize cross-departmental projects and initiatives. - Facilitate periodic cross-departmental operations meetings. - Support & oversee the systematization and documentation of HabiJax experience, tacit knowledge, and operational procedures. - Facilitates and negotiates strategic land acquisitions for purchase or lease identified and evaluated in collaboration with senior management. - Participates with senior management in filling management positions, reviewing resumes and conducting interviews. - Interviews and evaluates external partners for strategic initiatives, e.g. consultants, engineers and architects.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or other related concentration preferred. Master’s degree preferred. - 7+ years general business management experience and demonstrated knowledge of key business disciplines. - Experience in commercial and/or residential real estate management and construction preferred. - Proven ability to generate and manage business concepts through implementation in corporate settings. - Exceptional communication skills conveying both simple and complex ideas to diverse audiences. Ability to coalesce divergent points of view and generate consensus. - Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate the organization’s mission and vision. - Proficient in risk analysis and cost-benefit analysis. - Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and project management technology. - Communicates information clearly and concisely to ensure self, other team members and external customers can apply it to business actions and or decisions. - Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. - Ability to function well in a high-paced, often ambiguous and stressful environment. - Cooperating effectively with others in order to achieve a shared goal. - Builds and maintains customer satisfaction with services offered by the organization. - Earns others’ trust and respect through consistent honesty and professionalism in all interactions. - Promotes cooperation and commitment within a team to achieve goals and deliverables. - Valid Driver’s License insurable by HabiJax’s insurance carrier - Able to successfully pass a background and drug screening
