The full-time Communications Specialist will support the work of the CEO, the Vice President of Communications and other Department Directors as specified.

The work for the agency will include, but is not limited to, researching and writing the agency e-newsletter, press releases and other printed materials; and coordinating and communicating agency messages via social media, the agency website and other electronic outlets. A moderate amount of work will include coordinating various tasks as it relates to agency fundraising (i.e. maintaining donor data base information, coordination and implementation of various fundraising events; correspondence and donor follow-up related to donations).

Additionally, the Communications Specialist will work closely with the CEO and ElderSource Leadership Team to support a variety of strategic initiatives, initiate and implement outreach activities, work with the CEO and Vice President of Communications to carry out various fund/friend-raising duties.

The Communications Specialist will ensure that ElderSource is viewed as the primary source, disseminator and conduit of information within its diverse network and constituent base. Critical features of this job are described below in the specific headings. Responsibilities may be subject to change at any time due to reasonable circumstances.

Essential duties and responsibilities

I. Essential Duties and Responsibilities A. Agency Materials. Responsible for researching, writing and coordinating the production of agency materials including but not limited to press releases, the annual report, program brochures and special print projects. B. Social Media and External Communications. Research, write and post agency news, programs and activities on social media. Document events via social media and photos. Media outlets to include regional publications, radio and TV where applicable, ElderSource Facebook page, ElderSource e-newsletter, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram. Responsible for inserting new content on the agency website, along with ensuring the website information is updated. C. Outreach. Participate in agency outreach events including health fairs, expos, and food pantry distributions. Become familiar and comfortable with representing ElderSource not only at community events, but at organizational meetings and collaborative meeting opportunities. Seek out, secure and present community presentations to regional groups with the purpose of informing the general public of the agency’s mission and purpose. D. Support the Implementation of Agency Programs’ Communications Plans. Under the supervision of the Vice President of Communications and other Department Directors, coordinate various tasks and strategies that carry-out the mission of the agency, the requirements of grants and other agency initiatives. E. Fundraising and Donor Information Management. Maintain and update the ElderSource donor database. This includes inputting new donor information, regular check-ups of donor information to maintain accuracy and run reports on donor giving. Implement planned donor events. Responsibilities include assistance with creation and distribution of event invitations and social media posts, coordinating event logistics. II. Supervisory Responsibilities None.

Education and Experience

V. Education and/or Experience Has a bachelor’s degree in a related field (communications, business, journalism) with at least two years’ experience in marketing and/or communications and project management. Employee is able to demonstrate excellence in organizational and communication skills. It would be advantageous for the Communications Specialist to have had prior responsibilities and familiarity with social media and website platforms and writing for various forms of media – print and electronic.

Salary/Salary Range

$38,625.00 to $42,487.50 Annually (Depending on Experience)
