Elevate Jacksonville is an education/mentoring focused nonprofit working in middle and high schools teaching a curriculum focused on character traits and life skills. We are seeking a Grant Writer to research, compose, track, and report on all grant submissions. The Grant Writer will engage in collaborative writing with fundraisers and program leaders by creating a portfolio of funding proposals, letters of interest (LOIs), reports and other funding materials. This position works very closely with the Executive Director and Director of Development.
Essential duties and responsibilities
• Study and understand the history, structure, objectives, programs, and financial needs of the organization • Determines proposal concept by identifying and clarifying opportunities and needs, studying requests for proposal (RFPs), and attending strategy meetings • Research grant opportunities from government and non-government agencies • Draft grant proposals and supporting documents based on the funding requirements of the organization • Submit grant proposals for approval • Report monthly to Executive Director on drafted and submitted proposals • Maintain positive relationships with fund providers • Maintain records and submit reports related to grant opportunities • Meets proposal deadline by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering writing, review, approval, and transmittal • Develops proposal by assembling information including project nature, objectives/outcomes/deliverables, implementation, methods, timetable, staffing, budget, etc. • Writes, revises, and edits drafts including executive summaries, conclusions, and organization credentials • Improves proposal-writing results by evaluating and re-designing processes, approach, coordination, and boilerplate
Qualifications
Excellent knowledge of proposal submission and fundraising process • Ability to study and understand programs and funding requirements of the organization • Strong research skills and knowledge of information sources • Strong presentation skills • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and written communication skills • Deadline orientated • Highly motivated and takes initiative to seek new funding leads • Creative storyteller, data-driven research
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, creative writing, or a related area • A minimum of two years’ experience in grant writing and fundraising
