ABOUT US: The Jessie is a nonprofit center and community space situated in Downtown Jacksonville, dedicated to serving the local community. We operate a growing event rental business focused on providing high-quality meeting and event spaces, coupled with exceptional service for events of all sizes. We are seeking a proactive and experienced Events Manager to join our team and contribute significantly to our mission. The successful candidate will play a key role in expanding our event rental business, with a goal of tripling our event income over the next ten years.
JOB SUMMARY: The Events Manager will be instrumental in the expansion of The Jessie’s event venue rental business. This role encompasses the management of all aspects of event venue rentals, from client acquisition to event execution and post-event follow-up. Key responsibilities include the development and implementation of a growth and marketing strategy for our event rental services. The Events Manager will be responsible for cultivating and maintaining relationships with both new and existing rental clients, managing inventory, coordinating logistics, and ensuring a seamless customer experience. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in event management and demonstrate a passion for exceptional customer service.
In addition to these duties, the Events Manager will assist the Director with the planning, logistics, and execution of events hosted for both tenants and the public. This includes providing tenants with the necessary resources and training to successfully execute their own events. Up to 25% of the Events Manager’s annual time will be dedicated to collaborating with the Jessie Ball duPont Fund staff on the planning, logistics, and execution of events hosted for its constituents. Furthermore, the Events Manager will shadow the Director, receiving comprehensive training in all aspects of the Director’s daily responsibilities over time.
Essential duties and responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Strategic Growth: Develop and implement effective strategies to attract new clients and expand The Jessie’s event venue rental business. -Market Analysis: Conduct comprehensive analysis of the competitive landscape and market trends to ensure pricing and marketing strategies are optimized for client acquisition and revenue growth. -Industry Awareness: Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to maintain a competitive edge. -Marketing Collaboration: Collaborate with communications staff to enhance the visibility and promotion of the event rental business. -Technological Advancements: Advise on potential technological changes that can streamline operations and attract customers. -Service Enhancement: Take initiative to improve service offerings and implement changes as appropriate to enhance client experience. Operations and Execution: Oversee and execute as necessary all aspects of client management, events, contracts, technology -Client Relationship Management: Oversee client relationships, managing initial inquiries, consultations, and ongoing communication to foster strong partnerships. -Event Coordination: Assist in the coordination and logistics of event rentals, including the delivery, setup, and pickup of rental items, ensuring smooth transitions between events that optimize space utilization and revenue without compromising the success of multiple events. -Inventory Management: Maintain and oversee inventory of in-house items, ensuring all equipment is in excellent condition and ready for use. -Contract Negotiation: Negotiate contracts and agreements with clients, vendors, and suppliers, ensuring timely collection of all fees in advance of events. -Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to all insurance, legal, health, and safety requirements related to event operations. -Personnel Oversight: Manage and monitor delivery personnel and set up crews to ensure high standards of service. -Event Monitoring: Supervise event activities to ensure customer satisfaction, promptly addressing any issues that may arise. -Post-Event Evaluation: Conduct thorough post-event evaluations to gather feedback and identify areas for improvement. -Technology Management: Operate all IT and AV equipment in the event space, proactively monitoring performance and troubleshooting minor issues as they arise. Management of The Jessie and Collaboration with The Jessie Ball duPont Fund: Work collaboratively with The Jessie Ball duPont Fund, as required, to assist in the planning, logistics, and execution of events. -Support for the Director: Assist the Director not only with growth of The Jessie’s business and execution, but with other responsibilities related to the running of the building as a business as needed. -Tenant Training: Provide training support to tenants to ensure they have the necessary skills and resources to execute their events successfully, but also to enhance their experience of tenancy.. -Mentorship: Shadow the Director to gain insight into the day-to-day operations of managing the facility and its staff.
Qualifications
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES: -While a four-year degree in Event Management, Business Administration, Hospitality, or a related field is preferred, candidates will be evaluated based on their relevant skills and experience in event management. -Minimum qualifications include: 3 years of experience in event planning and implementation, demonstrating a proven track record of success. -Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport easily with diverse individuals. -Strong organizational and time management abilities, with a proven capacity to manage multiple priorities and function effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. -Keen attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping, accompanied by excellent task follow-through. -Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with confidence in representing the organization to others, particularly when addressing large groups (100+ participants) for organizational introductions. -Solutions-oriented problem-solving skills, with the ability to think quickly and find effective solutions while events are in progress. -Capability to work autonomously and effectively in a dynamic environment, meeting deadlines amidst changing circumstances. -A collaborative mindset, thriving in team settings while also being able to work independently to further the organization's mission and enhance each event. -Proficiency with technology and a willingness to learn about new tools and systems as necessary. -Physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs, with reasonable accommodations available if needed. -Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required, with any after-hours commitments offsetting regular working hours. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: -Proven experience in building and scaling business operations. -In-depth knowledge of the event rental industry and current market trends.
Salary/Salary Range
$85,000-$95,000

STATUS: Full-Time, Salaried, Exempt Starting salary between $85,000 - $95,000 dollars, dependent on qualifications. BENEFITS: This position qualifies for a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, SEP retirement contribution, paid holidays, and generous paid time off. WORK LOCATION: Onsite at The Jessie in Downtown Jacksonville with some travel required. Hours fluctuate based on scheduled events, but otherwise take place during The Jessie’s business hours of 9am to 5pm, M-F. Occasional early mornings, evenings and/or weekends are required to fulfill the duties of this position. The Jessie is committed to sustainable workloads and will work diligently to ensure work weeks do not become excessive or require prolonged periods that significantly exceed 40 hours per week.
