Summary Description:
This position is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the academic and nonacademic activities of the preschool. Daily interactions with staff to ensure the educational activities and policies are observed. Confers with parents on students’ progress and promotes the curriculum and benefits of Little Friends to prospective parents. Prepares annual budget and manages student-to-teacher ratios appropriately to ensure the excellence of the curriculum is delivered with the safety of the students.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Principal responsibilities include but not limited to: o Create an environment for children to feel safe and want to attend preschool o Oversee day-to-day school operations and procedures o Develop and implement school policies ensuring the safety of all personnel. Handle emergencies and school crises o Ensure all rules and regulations from Florida Department of Family and Child Services are implemented and maintained with appropriate documentation o Monitor students’ progress and provide students and teachers assistance with problem-resolution o Observe teacher performance and, provide guidance, and conduct semiannual evaluations of staff members o Determine the scope of educational program offerings and prepare drafts of program schedules and descriptions to estimate staffing and facility requirements. Organize special events coordinating with teachers, and assist with the activity o Prepare weekly newsletter and provide updated content for the website o Recruit, hire, train and evaluate staff o Participate in learning activities, teach class, or provide direct care to children when necessary o Manage general finances; work within approved budget, order curriculum and supplies, submit payroll and bill and collect monthly tuition o Build, establish and maintain positive relationships in the community that support a diverse student population and the mission of Little Friends o Conduct tours and actively seek new students o Maintain school operating software o Present data from school performance to board members o Keep abreast of educational trends and continue to develop professionally o Be available and cooperative with the greater support of team efforts, especially when extraordinary projects are in progress.

Education and Experience

Education: B.S. or B.A. in Early Childhood Education or closely related field Preferred Experience: • 3-5 years’ experience as a Preschool Director • Strong organizational, planning and implementation skills • Experience or knowledge of Core Knowledge Preschool Sequence • Knowledge of teacher evaluation and observation methods • Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions • Meet attendance standards and work the hours necessary to perform the essential functions of the job Certificates and Licenses: • Complete 40 hours required from the Department of Children and Family Services within a calendar year and maintain the 10 additional hours every year following the first year • Must have valid credentials with certificate numbers for Staff Credential, Director Credential, and VPK Director Credential • Current CPR and First Aid certification or willing to obtain within first 30 days
