The MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation is an after school and summer youth development organization providing programs to approximately 500 youth annually.
The Communications Assistant is responsible for providing support to the Director of Community Engagement & Development on special events, social media, donor communication and more.
This is a full time position to the Director of Community Engagement & Development. The Communications Assistant will work directly with the Development team and other full and part time staff for the successful implementation of the programs. This position is an entry level position with flexible hours for a current student with the ability to grow into a full time position upon graduation.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Overall Responsibilities: Administrative • Responsible for database upkeep for donors. • Creating/sending thank you notes to donors, volunteers, etc. via email, notes, student cards, etc. • Coordinate the Sponsor A Champion program, sending quarterly updates to donors • Oversee mass mailings with assistance from other coordinators and administrative staff • Coordinate also social media posts as well as create e-news and traditional newsletters. Develop with supervisor a monthly calendar • Manage the photo log and stock photos. Take photos as necessary, assigning to staff as needed for use in promotional materials and communications • Promote the Foundation at ‘tabling events’: college fairs, corporate volunteer opportunities, etc. Creative • Assist with the development of promotional materials: flyers, newsletters, invitations, etc. • Assist with the production of visuals for fundraising events: PowerPoints, video, etc. • Assist with the production of the annual report • Collaborate as a team on creative ideas for the organization Other • Adhere to all policies and procedures • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Community Engagement & Development. • Occasional Saturday’s (2-3 per year).
Entry level position, willingness to learn. • Comfortable working with K-12 youth and adults alike, including a low-income population • Commitment to youth development and the mission of MWYF • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing using proper grammar • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite • Proficient in Canva, Adobe, Photoshop, Indesign preferred • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate • Flexible and calm under pressure; Excels at operating in a fast paced environment • High attention to detail; organized. • Willingness to complete required trainings during first 90 days of employment • Must have a current Florida driver’s license and a 3 year clean driving record • Meet DCF qualifications for Level 2 Background screening & pass a Drug Test • Physical Requirements: Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors and adapt to inclement weather ; able to bend and lift up to 30 lbs; while performing duties, employee is required regularly to sit, stand and walk as well as frequent computer work. Education and Experience
Bachelors degree or AA with 2-3 years experience. Junior or Senior college student taking courses in related fields also eligible.
$19-$20 per hr; Health Insurance (100% employer paid for employee-dental, vision & family at employees expense; 3% SRA match; paid time off bank; paid major holidays including week between Christmas & New Years.
