MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation Education Coordinator Job Description
The MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation is an after school and summer youth development organization providing programs to approximately 250 youth annually.
The Education Coordinator is responsible for working with the Elementary Program Manager to provide the the overall organization, administration, development, and implementation of MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation’s academic enrichment programs, primarily for elementary aged students.
This is a full time, hourly position reporting to the Elementary Program Manager. The Education Coordinator will work with other full and part time staff for the successful implementation of the programs. The candidate must be willing to work a flexible schedule including some Saturday’s.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Overall Responsibilities: • Provide support to the after school and summer programs, specifically in the areas of academic support and enrichment for elementary students • Develop an individual academic success plan for each individual student to be utilized with mentors and others and prepare activities for arrival and no homework times. • Training of part time program staff and tutors including but not limited to: implementation of tutoring materials, training part time staff on core curriculum to better assist students (such as new math, etc.). • At the start of the school year, test students to determine those that will most benefit from tutoring. Pull and assess DCPS academic testing. • Administratively, prepare and analyze quarterly academic reports as needed. • Serve as a liaison with DCPS school teachers and parents as needed regarding academic success, making regular visits to our primary elementary school, John E. Ford. • During program hours, manage weekly 30-60 minute small group tutoring sessions in reading of 4-6 students (3-4 groups daily) and occasionally serve as a classroom substitute if needed • Attend meetings, trainings and workshops as necessary. • Drive the van for program pickups and drop offs and on field trips as necessary. • Adhere to all policies and procedures • Responsible for working 8-10 Saturdays per year on a rotating basis with other staff to cover Saturday School/Play Days/Special Events • Other duties as directed by the Elementary Program Manager
• Commitment to youth development and the mission of MWYF • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing using correct English • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word & Excel • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate • Flexible and calm under pressure; Excels at operating in a fast paced environment • High attention to detail; organized. • Willingness to complete required trainings during first 90 days of employment • Must have a current Florida driver’s license and a 3 year clean driving record • Meet DCF qualifications for Level 2 Background screening & pass a Drug Test • Physical Requirements: Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors and adapt to inclement weather ; able to bend and lift up to 40 lbs; while performing duties, employee is required regularly to sit, stand and walk as well as frequent computer work. Education and Experience
• Bachelors degree. Elementary education degree, teaching certification or both preferred. • Experience working with K-6 youth in a low-income environment
