The Medical Assistant (MA) works on-site at Mission House in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, supporting Mission House’s free primary care clinic services provided to uninsured, underserved adults in Duval County. The MA provides support to volunteer and staff clinicians during patient visit days on Tuesday evenings, and Friday and Saturday mornings, while assisting in the maintenance of complete and accurate patient records supportive of the mission and vision of Mission House, Inc.

The MA is aware of emotional and practical needs of patients and staff members in all interactions, offering positive and constructive feedback regarding quality of work and effort of clients and coworkers. The employee adjusts priorities and schedules to meet specific patient, program and agency needs. All universal precautions and infection control techniques are followed, and employee reports and/or corrects any safety, cleanliness and comfort issues of clients, staff or volunteers. The employee understands and demonstrates their own role in facility safety plans and procedures for emergencies.

Essential duties and responsibilities

• Assist with entering updated information into Athena EMR from chart, to meet metrics needed for reporting, including reason for visit, vital signs, assessment and plan, and scribing provider notes from prior clinics • Reviewing prescriptions in chart to make sure medications received and are consistent with what is documented in EMR • Organize and clean rooms prior to patient visit days, ensuring all equipment in good working order; clean each room after each patient exits, and at end of clinic day • Assist with patient check-in as needed during patient visit days • Assist with chart audits and archiving discharged/expired patient charts • Train and coordinate volunteers and nurses to perform tasks during patient visit days • Educate and assist volunteers on location of all supplies, forms and processes including: o Vital signs o Entry of patient information into Athena EMR o EKG o Vaccinations o Utilizing blood glucose monitor o Ensuring historical data is entered into EMR and updated on every clinic visit o Clinical student volunteers are able to perform nursing/MA duties with patients, including dressing changes • Utilize and submit appropriate forms and documentation to report on all activities • Maintain confidentiality of all staff, clients, patients, volunteers, donors, and their information • Collaborate with Mission House teams, programs, and partner agencies, as needed, to ensure patient needs are met and mission is achieved • Participate in conferences, workshops, special projects and staff meetings, as assigned. • Represent Mission House professionally and assist during Mission House events, as directed. • Adhere to uniform or business casual dress code • Perform all other duties, as assigned, to meet organizational goals


Required Skills/Abilities • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks with attention to detail • Ability to build consensus and resolve conflict; manage and de-escalate crisis situations; exhibits willingness and ability to have respectful difficult conversations • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with varied stakeholders, including staff, clients, and volunteers • Ability to listen and accept feedback constructively • Exhibit and uphold ethical standards • Exceptional communication ability, both written and oral • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds. • Possess valid identification • Must pass a Level II background check Preferred Skills/Abilities • Bilingual (Spanish and English) Physical Requirements • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times • Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization’s physical premises

Education and Experience

• Clinic or medical office experience • Proficient with Electronic Medical Record (EMR), computer use and computer applications

Salary/Salary Range

$16.50-$17.75 per hour
