SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for managing and performing various accounting activities including developing, implementing and maintaining the accounting systems, policies and procedures; compiling, analyzing and reporting accounting data for management reports and decision making purposes; may act as primary liaison with outside auditors and government agencies on contract issues. Manages monthly closing. Maintains the General Ledger and ensures that the financial system is accurate, efficient, and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and applicable government regulations. This includes oversight of accounts payable and receivable transactions, account reconciliation and month end close processes (in-kind, prepaid assets, accruals, etc.). Additionally, this position will review and reconcile all inventory, maintain files on vendor relationships and purchasing functions and processes for the various programs of the company. This position reports directly to the Director of Finance.

Essential duties and responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Reconcile general ledger and bank accounts monthly. • Review and post Finance staff accounts payable and receivable transactions, ensuring accurate coding and timely entries into the accounting software. • Oversee monthly aging reports generated for the payables and receivables while ensuring statements are mailed for outstanding balances of 90 days old, or more. • Maintain various accounting schedules (depreciation, prepaid assets, accrued expenses, etc.) • Assist with grant budgets and reporting. • Assist with annual budget process. • Assist with annual audits. • Research, develop and maintain accounting policies in accordance with GAAP. • Follow the company’s established accounting processes. • Provide financial information to staff and outside agencies pertaining to their designated work areas such as consumer information, maintenance, purchasing. • Participate in delivering continuous improvement training to staff. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Education and Experience

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting or related discipline preferred Bachelor’s degree can be substituted with three or more years accounting experience as a Full Charge Bookkeeper, Staff Accountant or an equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to effectively present oral and written information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Additionally, an ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Driver's License OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Able to maintain work priorities in an environment with multiple concurrent tasks and projects and maintain flexibility related to assigned tasks. Able to work with minimum supervision in a team oriented environment. Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Experience working in a non-profit organization is preferred. Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite is required. Experience in Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains preferable. Ability to demonstrate high level of organizational skills and attention to detail.
