Description

Under the direction of the Director of Education, The Police Athletic League CDL Driver is responsible for providing safe and timely transportation services to PAL students from school to the PAL Centers and other scheduled field trips. A successful applicant will have a high school diploma or G.E.D., current CDL license, with Passenger endorsement, clean driving record, and experience operating a school bus.

DEPARTMENT: Transportation
FLSA STATUS: Part–Time/Hourly
HOURS: 12:30 – 4:30p (Monday-Friday, coincides with DCPS schedule)
RATE OF PAY: $18.00 per hour
REPORTS TO: Transportation and Safety Manager

Essential duties and responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Must possess a valid and active driver's license (Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger endorsement required). Ability to meet federal/state/company driving standards (may include license verification, drug testing and driver's test. • Must meet motor vehicle records clearance requirements. • Must be at least 21 years of age. • Understand highway traffic signs and signals, respond to official questions, and be able to make legible entries on reports and records. • Be able to drive the vehicle safely. • Ability to communicate effectively with children, families and staff. • Must have compassion for and desire to work with children. • Must meet all health requirements as required by licensing and pass background checks. • Exemplifies appropriate behavior and is a role model for participants; actively listens to all children and shows patience, understanding, and respect for others. • Instructs and guides participants through the rules of riding the bus and ensures adherence. • Immediately report all unusual incidents or accidents to the Director of Education and Transportation & Safety Manager. OTHER DUTIES: • May be required to drive company van. • Record keeping/reporting as required. • Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: • Must have a valid Commercial Florida Driver’s license with a Passenger (P) or School Bus (S) endorsement and safe driving record. • Must have a current DOT physical card. • Must possess or obtain a valid CPR/First Aid certification within the first 90 days of employment. • Must pass drug screen and a level II criminal background check. • Possess love, care, and concern for children and enjoy being with and working with children. • Passion for the mission of the Police Athletic League of Jacksonville, Inc. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: • Requires full range of motion, including manual and finger dexterity, hand and eye coordination. • Sitting for extended periods of time. Bend, kneel, and stoop to assist students. • Corrected vision Hearing to normal range, or special accommodations made of sufficient nature for completion of assigned tasks. • Meet the physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties in a safe and effective manner for self and others.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED Experience driving a bus
