Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Summer Camp youth instructor is responsible for planning and implementing academic and enrichment activities, recreational activities, snack distribution, and behavioral management with students in the PAL Summer Camp program. Provide educational assistance on a daily basis. Seasonal Full-Time (35 – 40 hours). Camp Dates: June 12th – July 21st (Closed June 19th and July 4th). Camp Hours 7:30am – 6:00pm. Training June 7th – 9th (16hrs)

Essential duties and responsibilities

• Actively supervise the children, with top priority in their safety, always following risk management policies. • Lead small group activities that are age appropriate in an atmosphere where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences that enhance their social, physical and academic advancement. • Assist students with learning activities and provide assistance, as needed. • Maintain a daily attendance log. • Be able to create a fun and safe learning environment. • Be prepared to implement the lesson plans and activities for each day in accordance with the program goals. • Maintain classroom discipline for the benefit of student safety and learning. • Collaborate in communication with parents, personnel, and others to provide information on such things as program activities and student progress. • Report to the Program Manager any signs of illness or distress observed in the student; aid in dealing with the situation as appropriate. • Ensure that program policies and procedures are followed at the PAL Center. • Record keeping/reporting as required. • Other duties as may be assigned by the Program Manager.


• A valid CPR and/or First Aid certification • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. • Oral and written communication skills. • Must pass drug screen and a Level II criminal background check. • Possess love, care, and concern for children and enjoy being with and working with children. • Passion for the mission of the Police Athletic League of Jacksonville, Inc. Physical Demands: • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. • Bend, kneel, and stoop to assist students. • Seeing to read a variety of materials. • Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the phone. • Meet the physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties in a safe and effective manner for self and others.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma Two (2) years of college or equivalent work experience Experience working with school aged children in an academic or recreational setting, preferred

Salary/Salary Range

$12.00-$14.00 Hourly
