The Afterschool Enrichment Specialist, also known as a “coach”, is primarily responsible for supervising and mentoring elementary and middle school students in the Sanctuary on 8th Street’s afterschool program. An afterschool specialist must be a team-player who shows up on time, is energetic with youth, and is willing to learn.

Currently, we are seeking a coach who will work primarily with our middle school youth, including monitoring and assisting them during homework time, designing games and activities geared toward that age group and their interests, supervising them during various activities and free time, and being a mentor and a role model to these youth. This coach will still work with and supervise elementary school youth at times as well.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Supervise and mentor students in elementary and middle school attending the after-school program. Ensure safety of students at all times. Assist students with homework. Design and lead engaging and age-specific enrichment and recreational activities. Attend staff meetings and trainings to ensure proper implementation of the curriculum activities. Give feedback to Executive Director on the success of activities to ensure highest quality programming. Reports to Executive Director. 12-18 hours per week during school year; hours TBD during 6-week summer camp (if interested in being a summer coach). Opportunity to work more hours with additional duties if staff member takes initiative, is reliable, and shows growth. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Commitment to youth development and the mission of the Sanctuary on 8th Street High School Diploma required, some college preferred Experience working with children preferred CPR & First Aid training a plus (if not already completed, will need to be completed upon hire) Completion of Dept. of Children & Families child care personnel mandated training a plus (if not already completed, all employees must take 40 hours of online training) Level 2 background screening (Employer will cover the cost of fingerprinting) Valid Florida Driver License Reliable transportation to and from work Willingness & ability to drive a 15-passenger van for the afterschool program Must be able to work between the hours of 2:30 – 5:45 on weekdays (5 days a week preferred)

Education and Experience

Salary/Salary Range

$14-16 hourly depending on experience
