Essential duties and responsibilities

This position will: Work with state program directors to develop and deploy low-income solar programs and policy initiatives in their state. Work with local governments and municipalities on program design, outreach, and implementation. Lead the process to develop, test, and scale new programs and lines of work focused on energy equity programs and policy, including job training programs, community education and outreach programs, community solar LMI efforts, and others. For example, design and oversee Solar Sales Workforce training pilots. Work closely with the Executive Director and Development Director to develop fundraising materials and applications related to Energy Equity and Inclusion lines of work. Serve as an issue area expert on energy democracy and inclusion, including on program design and implementation best practices, the energy democracy landscape, related policy, and strategies for building a more inclusive energy system. Provide technical assistance to jurisdictions and organizations interested in deploying low-income solar projects. Represent SUN at meetings and discussions of state and national collaborations, as appropriate, and build our reputation as a leader in energy equity policy and program design. Serve as a knowledgeable and relational presence when needed with regional partners, funders, the general public, and industry leaders. Work with our Communications & Impact teams to support the development and creation of materials, messaging, and outreach strategies that educate our network about energy democracy and equity, and how our members can help build a more inclusive movement. Ensure all requirements of funding agreements are met and communicated. Collaborate with others on the Senior Management Team to develop strategies, process improvements, and new initiatives within SUN to facilitate the rapid growth objectives of the organization. Provide strategic insight and input to contribute to short-term and long-range planning on SUN program design and strategic positioning. Establish internal and external processes and key performance indicators for the Equitable Energy and Inclusion program to provide accountability, measurement, and tracking of effectiveness. Provide timely, accurate, and complete reports on the current activities of the Equitable Energy and Inclusion Program. Supervise staff of the Equitable Energy and Inclusion Program. Track the program’s operating budget and operating plan for the Equitable Energy and Inclusion Program. Monitor expenditures, cash flow, and use of campaign funds. Provide monthly reporting to funders on all deliverables and accomplishments of the program. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.


About you: Five years of experience: Managing a distributed team. Engaging diverse stakeholders in a culturally sensitive manner. Community organizing. Working in energy equity and/or environmental justice. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. English and Spanish fluency is strongly preferred.

Salary/Salary Range

Salary range of $75,000 – $85,000 per year
