The Xplore Program Specialist will provide training, support and supervision to people receiving services in the Xplore Program. They will participate in providing community and educational classes that will facilitate growth, inclusion, connectedness and integration into the greater community for program participants.

Essential duties and responsibilities

PROGRAM SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS: Assist the Xplore Program Manager in the creation, implementation and maintenance of community and educational classes that will facilitate growth, inclusion, connectedness and integration into the greater community. Review available information to develop a working knowledge of each individual served in regard to types of disabilities, medical and behavioral status, personal goals, as well as training/support methods, then use this information to provide effective, individualized interactions and supervision. Facilitate educational classes and community engagement that will further the Xplore mission of providing opportunities for social and personal growth to increase independent skills. These can include, but not limited to, volunteer opportunities in the community, exercise and physical wellness, cooking and healthy eating. Respond to and appropriately handle participant issues and concerns (routine and emergency) that arise during classes and support growth and development of participants through collaboration with appropriate staff, volunteers, and partners as necessary. Maintain relationships with community partners for ongoing opportunities, as well as ensure quality communication. Complete and maintain all paperwork for Medwaiver clients, including billing and quarterly reports/ implementation plans. Coordinate and communicate with Medwaiver support staff to ensure reports are completed in a timely manner. Interact with all staff in a courteous manner that encourages a cooperative work environment. Make positive, creative suggestions for continuous improvements. All other duties as assigned by Xplore Program Manager


Organizational and time management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Attention to detail, especially when adhering to specific protocols while caring for the needs of the program participants. Ability to work with diverse population with a positive attitude and work ethic. Interpersonal skills when working with participants. Ability to perform all responsibilities independently, without direct supervision. At least 1 year of experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental differences is preferred. Typical work hours are 8am 5pm, Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required for special even Must be able to pass DCF background clearance checks. Must have valid driver’s license and be willing and able to drive agency vehicles.

Education and Experience

High school diploma (or GED)

Salary/Salary Range

$15.00 per hour
