Engaging in impactful advocacy requires developing strategy that leverages and gets the most out of your capacity. Whether you are engaging in lobbying or educating the community, understanding who your audiences are and how you can reach them is integral in the success of your advocacy agenda. In this session participants will learn about effective advocacy strategies, explore how they can begin to define and identify their own audiences, and discuss common challenges with other local nonprofit leaders.

Join Leah Donelan McDermott, Program Manager for the Florida Nonprofit Alliance, as she leads this informative session!

Leah Donelan McDermott has been working and volunteering in the nonprofit sector for 20 years. She specializes in helping organizations grow their capacity to meet their mission through training, leadership development, strategic thinking and planning, research and processes and procedures implementation. Leah conducts and facilitates trainings on various topics including board roles and responsibilities; board governance and engagement; advocacy; starting a nonprofit organization; volunteer engagement; logic model creation; and trend in the nonprofit sector, among others. She has worked at the Nonprofit Center of Northeast FloridaAmerican Cancer Society, the Alliance for World Class Education, and many other nonprofits in a consulting capacity.

This new series builds upon the role of The Jessie as a place for community conversation, and the Nonprofit Center as a local leader on advocacy, by cultivating space for the Northeast Florida nonprofit sector to learn about and discuss pressing issues impacting our communities. All series events are open and free to all Northeast Florida nonprofits.
