Description

Family Promise of Jacksonville serves families at risk or experiencing homelessness. 30% of those who are unhoused in America are families with children. It has two programs, a Temporary Shelter and Family Support, a prevention and diversion program. A core value is keeping families together. Family Promise is one of nearly 200 affiliates of Family Promise National.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Clinical/Guest Specific Activities • Serve as the “front door” of Family Promise, providing a welcoming and encouraging voice to families and others seeking assistance. • Respond to inquiries by email, phone, website, agency referrals or other means. • Provide initial screening and identify the appropriate Family Promise program for the families’ needs. If Family Promise is not a resource, when appropriate, provide resources and referrals to other community resources. • Provide families with intake packets and information about Family Promise. • Providing guidance and encouragement that motivates people to better their lives. • Communicate clearly and regularly with the Shelter Family Advocate and the Family Support Advocate about families that are possible candidates for services. • Track type of inquiries, demographics and other information needed for reporting and planning. • Make referrals to appropriate resources such as childcare, workforce preparation, affordable housing and other needs. Assist guests in applying for benefits. • Assist with intake of donation and supplies. • Develop relationships within the community as resources for families. Administrative • Greet callers and visitors to the Family Resource Center. • Return phone calls and emails within 72 hours. • Support communications and fundraising efforts by identifying families with stories to share. Miscellaneous • Perform other tasks assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications

• Valid Florida driver’s license. • Passing a Level 2 Department of Children and Family (DCF) background screening will be required after the internship is accepted. This will be reimbursed.

Education and Experience

• Enrolled at accredited college or university in a program with a focus of human services.

Salary/Salary Range

This is an unpaid internship . Upon successfully completion of the internship, a $500 book stipend will be provided.
