The Executive Intern to the CEO at READ USA, Inc. will gain hands-on experience in nonprofit leadership, community engagement, and organizational development. This internship offers a unique opportunity to observe and assist the CEO of a fast-growing nonprofit organization committed to solving the literacy crisis through evidence-based programming and community partnerships. The intern will work closely with the CEO on high-impact projects related to business development, community engagement, fundraising, and strategic initiatives. Through this experience, the intern will strengthen their leadership abilities, build professional networks, and gain valuable insight into nonprofit operations, communications, and social impact.

Time Commitment
• 15–20 hours per week
• Flexible scheduling within regular business hours (Monday–Friday)
• Some evening or weekend availability may be requested for special events

Essential duties and responsibilities

Learning Objectives • Gain firsthand experience in executive-level leadership and nonprofit management • Develop communication and relationship-building skills with community partners and stakeholders • Strengthen project management, organizational, and research abilities • Understand the structure and operations of a high-performing nonprofit organization • Contribute meaningfully to projects that support organizational growth and community impact Key Responsibilities • Support the CEO on organizational projects, including development, fundraising, and strategic initiatives • Assist with meeting preparation, follow-up tasks, and note-taking • Conduct research and draft reports, briefings, presentations, and correspondence • Attend internal and external meetings as appropriate, gaining exposure to community leaders, board members, and strategic partners • Help coordinate logistics for events and community outreach activities • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism in all duties • Complete other tasks and projects as assigned by the CEO

Qualifications

• Interest in leadership, community engagement, nonprofit development, or literacy-related initiatives • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Reliable, detail-oriented, and self-motivated • Ability to manage time effectively and work independently • Professional demeanor and commitment to learning

Education and Experience

• Current undergraduate or graduate student in nonprofit management, business, education, public policy, or related field

Salary/Salary Range

This is an unpaid internship. Academic credit may be arranged with the student’s college or university.
