This two-session series, facilitated by Doug Green of La Piana Consulting, provides tools for effective financial oversight for nonprofits. Building on the first session and continuing to explore the case study, this interactive workshop offers a deeper dive into financial analysis tools that will support a nonprofit’s strategy and planning efforts. Specific elements will include measuring the cost of programs relative to impact, understanding the financial impact of donor/funder restrictions and their impact on cash flow, and considering relative roles of board and staff.

About the Presenter: Doug Green is a Senior Consultant with La Piana Consulting. Doug works with nonprofit leaders to help them do their good work more effectively. His consulting is informed by diverse experiences with nonprofits and organizations in times of great change. In the 1980s S&L crisis, he supported the first modern interstate banking mergers with financial analysis. He also led an AIDS services organization during the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and has been a consultant to nonprofits during the Great Recession and its uneven recovery. Doug thrives on challenges and enjoys partnering with clients on multifaceted projects that draw on his range of skills in communication, analysis, and group facilitation.
Prior to joining La Piana in 2016, Doug consulted independently to numerous nonprofits on California’s Central Coast and served as director of the Resource Center for Nonprofit Management at the Ventura County Community Foundation. He also has executive-level experience in public affairs, in both the nonprofit and public sectors. Doug has helped prepared the next generation of leaders as a professor of nonprofit studies at Pepperdine University and California Lutheran University.
Doug has an MBA with a concentration in Finance from Souther Methodist University’s Cox School of Business and a BA in English from the University of North Florida. He co-founded and continues to co-host the Nonprofit Leadership Institute at Pepperdine University and is currently a featured faculty member for the Center for Nonprofit Leadership at California Lutheran University.
