Purpose of Position:

The Volunteer Coordinator position is responsible for leading the recruitment, placement, training, and retention of volunteers in support of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. This position plays a critical role in advancing the mission of United Way and the RealSense program by ensuring that all volunteer activities are aligned with IRS regulations, organizational goals, and community needs. The ideal candidate will bring strong organizational, communication, and community engagement skills, along with a passion for volunteerism and financial stability efforts.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions: • Lead the recruitment and retention of VITA volunteers. • Develop and implement grassroots recruitment strategies, engaging community partners and other local organizations. • Design and manage the full volunteer program lifecycle to ensure a high-quality volunteer experience. • Conduct comprehensive analysis on program volunteer data. • Train and manage site coordinators and volunteers in the accurate use of volunteer management software. • Ensure all VITA volunteers are IRS certified and compliant with IRS Volunteer Standards of Conduct and Quality Site Requirements. • Manage and provide technical assistance for the virtual, self-directed VITA certification process. • Maintain accurate records of volunteer certifications and submit timely documentation and reports to the IRS. • Develop and execute year-round communications and engagement strategies for volunteer retention, including survey administration and focus groups. • Collaborate with the Tax Program Manager to support tax site planning, operations, and volunteer placement. • Build and maintain relationships with business and community partners. • Collaborate with the Program and Services Coordinator on various initiatives. • Perform other duties and special assigned by RealSense Program Manager.

Education and Experience

Experience/Position Requirements: • High School Diploma. Two-year college degree preferred. • 2–4 years of experience in volunteer management, nonprofit programming, or community engagement. • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (verbally and in writing). • Experience with data analysis and reporting. • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams. • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with volunteer management software is a plus. • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends during peak season. • Possess reliable transportation.

Salary/Salary Range

39,000 to 40,000
