Description
The Digital Navigator & Instructor plays a key role in bridging the digital divide for adult learners. This position provides instruction in digital certification programs (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, IT fundamentals, etc.) and delivers foundational digital literacy training for students with limited technology skills. The Digital Navigator also offers individualized support to ensure students gain confidence using digital tools for education, employment, and daily life. Digital Literacy activities are paired with traditional adult literacy and adult education instruction that adult students are enrolled in at the Literacy Alliance. The Digital Literacy Navigator will also assist adult learners in learning to use their own personal devices, manage the on-site computer lab, oversee computer lab volunteers, coordinate administrative requirements of the online learning platforms, and develop or adapt digital literacy curriculum and materials.
Essential duties and responsibilities
-Teach digital certification programs to adult learners, preparing students for industry-recognized credentials. -Provide basic digital literacy instruction for students with limited experience using technology, including skills such as email, online safety, word processing, video conferencing, and using digital devices. -Assess students’ digital skills and tailor instruction to meet varying learning levels and goals. -Support learners in navigating digital platforms required for classes, job applications, workforce training, and community resources. -Maintain a supportive, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom environment. -Track student progress, maintain accurate attendance and assessment records, and provide feedback to learners. -Collaborate with program staff to align instruction with workforce development and adult education goals. -Stay current on emerging digital tools, certifications, and teaching methods in digital literacy and technology education. -Provide instruction in math and reading to adult basic education students. -Oversee Learning Lab and proactively assist students with using adult literacy instructional software, assist students in reading, language arts and math lessons they progress through using online applications, and assist with technology needs and learning. -Communicate with small-group and classroom teachers or tutors on the progress of students' use of online learning platforms and integration of digital skills in adult basic ed classrooms. -Gather and report student progress data for organizational leadership. -Facilitate participation of volunteers in the learning lab or assist volunteers with using digital technologies in their own literacy tutoring.
Qualifications
-Experience teaching adults or facilitating training in digital skills, technology, or workforce readiness. -Knowledge of digital certification programs (e.g., Microsoft, Google, TOSA Digicomp, Northstar Digital, or equivalent). -Ability to adapt instruction for learners with varying levels of digital experience. -Experience in tutoring or teaching reading and/or math skills. -Strong knowledge of, experience with, and skills in using and training on use of computer hardware and software. -General grasp of administering software systems that require managing users, assigning roles, and tracking progress. -Experience working with diverse adult learners, including English language learners. -Excellent oral and written communication skills; detail-oriented, good interpersonal skills, and able to manage multiple tasks/deadlines at once. -Ability to work independently and proactively with minimal supervision. -Competency in the Microsoft Office Suite and Google. -Have reliable transportation. -Pass the required background check.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree or Associate's Degree with equivalent experience in teaching or training. Experience in teaching digital technology and using digital technologies in education is preferred.
Salary/Salary Range
$46,000 - $50,000 per year; Health/Vison/Dental Insurance; 401k match; Paid time off
