Position Overview
The Jacksonville Civic Council seeks an entrepreneurial and innovative Director of Research to drive our research program. Qualified candidates will be able to both carry out research themselves and supervise other researchers and analysts. They will be able to inform strategic decision-making and extend and deepen JCC’s thought leadership role on public policy issues. Reporting to a C-level manager or directly to the CEO, this role is ideal for a dynamic professional with a passion for producing impactful research analysis and leadership, assembling world-class teams, and delivering high-quality products within short timeframes and limited resources.
The position will work collaboratively with JCC staff, membership and external partners to establish and execute the organization’s research priorities.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Key Responsibilities Design, Execute, and Oversee Research Initiatives: Manage the collection and analysis of data to inform policy recommendations, develop data-driven reports and communications, build and maintain internal and external data infrastructure, ensure data quality and compliance, and represent the organization's data and research findings to stakeholders and the public. Team Building: Identify, recruit, and manage world-class research teams, drawing from both local and global expertise, to collaborate on specific projects. Collaboration: Liaise with universities, research centers,other institutions and vendors to establish partnerships and enhance the quality and credibility of JCC’s research outputs. Strategic Alignment: Work closely with the CEO and staff, especially the to align research priorities with organizational goals and civic initiatives. Product Development: Produce both quick-turnaround policy briefs and longer, comprehensive research reports to inform civic discussions and policy decisions. Resource Optimization: Demonstrate entrepreneurial ability to deliver high-quality research products efficiently, maximizing the impact of limited resources. Thought Leadership: Extend and deepen JCC’s thought leadership role on public policy issues through innovative research, compelling analysis, and active engagement in civic discussions.

Qualifications

Research Expertise: Proven experience producing high-quality research across diverse public policy areas. Ability to synthesize research efforts across disciplines. Collaborative Skills: Demonstrated ability to identify and manage research collaborators, including academics, industry experts, and civic leaders. Versatility: Ability to produce both concise policy briefs on a and in-depth research papers. Entrepreneurial Drive: Innovative approach to resource management, meeting tight deadlines, and achieving high-impact results. Team Player: Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to fostering a collaborative work environment. Communication: Exceptional writing, presentation, and analytical skills.

Education and Experience

Educational Background: Master’s or Ph.D. in research, public policy, economics, political science, sociology, urban studies, health / public health or a related field.
