Job purpose
The driver position is responsible for pickups and deliveries for the Beaches Community Food Bank. The driver pickups donations from donors at various locations. Additionally, the driver loads and unloads the vehicle, prepares for deliveries, and redelivers food to mobile pantry locations and partners. This position works in close partnership with volunteers to ensure safe food practices are followed and contractual obligations are met.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities • Pickup donations from donors. • Verify the product in which you are receiving and sign for product when required. • Inspect product upon loading and unloading. If necessary, refuse food that is not usable. Inform Food Bank Manager. • Prepare for deliveries. • Load and unload the vehicle. • Operate forklift as needed. • Rotate food in and out of food bank storage area. • Perform monthly safety and maintenance checks of vehicles. • Assist in training, supporting, and recognizing volunteers. • Perform duties in a safe manner. • Work in partnership with staff and volunteers to assure a cooperative and safe environment. Working conditions • Must be able to work on occasional nights and weekends. • Must be able to work in a fast paced, high-volume environment. • Will be required to work in very low and very high temperature environments including walk-in freezers and outdoors in summer weather. • This position requires regular, in-person attendance at BEAM locations. Physical requirements • Must have the ability to use, reach, and extend: hands and arms on a regular basis. • Must have ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time. • Must have the stamina to use a computer for extended periods of time. • Must have ability to lift materials up to 50 lbs on a regular basis. • Must tolerate bending, stooping, and squatting on a regular basis.
Qualifications
• Certification or ability to gain certification in Food Safety and Forklift Operation. • Strong cultural competence; ability to build positive relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders including donors and volunteers for faith-based and grassroots organizations. • Excellent customer service skills. • Valid driver’s license required; must maintain outstanding driving record. • Maintain professional appearance when making deliveries. • Maintain good relationships with our donors, volunteers and community partners. • Ability to lift up 50 lbs. safely.
Salary/Salary Range
$ 16- $17 / hour
