JASMYN supports the empowerment of LGBTQIA+ teens and young adults through leadership, advocacy, resources, and a safe and affirming community. Founded in 1994, JASMYN’s staff of 25+ provides a comprehensive continuum of programs and services that includes Health Services with a focus on HIV testing, risk reduction counseling, linkage to medical care for teens and young adults living with HIV, and a sexual health clinic that provides linkage to PrEP and PrEP care coordination services. This position will be a part of the Health Services Team and work closely with JASMYN’s additional teams: Mental Health Services, and Housing Support Services.

The Health Education and Prevention Coordinator will provide comprehensive health education, HIV testing, counseling, PrEP navigation, and linkage to care services for LGBTQIA+ teens (ages 13-17) and young adults (ages 18-29) both on and off campus. This position plays a vital role in increasing awareness of HIV prevention, including PrEP as a highly effective prevention tool, and promoting overall sexual health through evidence-based public health strategies. This role emphasizes a public health approach that is community-centered, trauma-informed, and inclusive, ensuring access to PrEP and other prevention resources is seamless and equitable for all.

Full-time hourly position (40 hours per week); $17-19 per hour, depending on experience
Typical Schedule is Monday-Friday from 10:00 AM- 6:00 PM or12:00 PM- 8:00 PM with some nights and weekends required.

Essential duties and responsibilities

HIV Testing & Counseling • Conduct rapid HIV testing, including pre- and post-test counseling both on and off JASMYN Campus. • Connect people at increased risk of HIV due to sexual behavior and/or due to injection drug use to Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and/or PEP (Post Exposure Prophylaxis), as appropriate. • Connect individuals who test positive for HIV to supportive, ongoing HIV care and Care Coordination. PrEP/PEP Navigation • Educate individuals at increased risk of HIV about PrEP as a prevention tool. • Facilitate referrals for PrEP and PEP services. • Support young adults at increased risk of HIV in applying for Medical Assistance Program (MAP) for PrEP medication. • Collaborate with the JASMYN Care Team to communicate and address participants’ ongoing needs related to PrEP and PEP. Education & Outreach • Support all sexual health education and HIV prevention activities • Deliver culturally relevant, evidenced-based educational sessions about HIV prevention, safer sex practices, and PrEP. • Utilize the Social Network Strategy (SNS) to collaborate with young adults to encourage HIV testing amongst their social network. • Develop outreach and marketing materials for HIV and STI testing activities, as well as sexual health education and awareness initiatives. • Conduct outreach via text, email, phone calls, and social media, tailored specific to communities at increased risk for HIV. • Conduct offsite outreach to facilitate unprompted conversations and conduct education and awareness activities to increase knowledge on HIV prevention and sexual health. • Collaborate with community partners to increase access to HIV and prevention resources. • Coordinate and facilitate evidence-based sexual reproductive health programs appropriate to teens and young adults. Safe Space & Youth Engagement Programming • Support the creation of a safe and engaging social space for LGBTQIA+ teens and young adults. • Fulfill all assigned HIV testing shifts, including providing services at the Sexual Health Clinic, ensuring comprehensive care and support for individuals seeking HIV testing and sexual health services. • Support the facilitation of the Community Advisory Board to gather insights and feedback, ensuring JASMYN stays informed and fosters collaboration with LGBTQIA+ teens and young adults in program development and implementation. • Collaborate as a member of the JASMYN team to support all programs and services for teens and young adults at increased risk for HIV, including group facilitation, outreach and enrollment, drop-in center operations, daily testing, and clinic staffing, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants. Data Collection & Reporting • Preform daily data entry with accuracy and attention to detail, ensuring timely and reliable documentation of all services provided in accordance with agency standards. • Track testing outcomes, educational session attendance, and PrEP indication metrics. • Generate and submit comprehensive reports in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with all grant requirements and deadlines. • Adherence to HIPAA law to ensure participant confidentiality and privacy at all times.

Qualifications

• Cultural Competency – understand basic concepts around HIV and AIDS and knowledge around the challenges and barriers high risk LGBTQ youth face • Customer Service – able to personally provide high level of interactive service to targeted customer base/market, building relationships and acting as external organization advocate • Team Orientation & Interpersonal – must be a highly motivated, passionate, and creative team-player with ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with all levels within and external to the organization • Communication – able to effectively and persuasively express self verbally and in writing, using correct language and grammar in a professional, diplomatic and tactful manner • Organization & Time Management – able to work independently with minimal supervision while planning, scheduling and organizing professional schedule to complete actions within established deadlines; able to handling multiple priorities with strong attention to detail Advanced understanding in Microsoft Office, with a strong focus on Excel for efficient data collection. • Comfortable discussing sexual health in an affirming and healthy manner. • Ability to relate to teens and young adults in an accepting, positive and healthy manner is required. • Familiarity and sensitivity in addressing the unique needs of LGBTQIA+ teens and young adults. • Ability to work with a diverse and dynamic staff and excel in a multi-cultural environment. • Ability to effectively deliver strength-based, trauma-informed, and harm reduction services. • Desire to make a positive impact in the lives of LGBTQIA+ teens and young adults. • Desire to be a part of a dynamic team supporting LGBTQIA+ teen and young adults. • Bilingual in English and Spanish language is a plus. • Current driver’s license and clean driving record. • Must pass criminal background checks.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Public Health, Social Welfare, or Psychology from an accredited university preferred, OR a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in HIV prevention work. • Certified in HIV testing and counseling is a plus. • Comfortability conducting rapid HIV testing and counseling on a daily/nightly basis. • Experience conducting high-level outreach utilizing various platforms and techniques. • Experience using various social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.) to engage youth on health topics. • Experience with HIV prevention, testing and treatment services. • Experience of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) prevention, testing, and treatment services. • Experience with PrEP/PEP for HIV prevention.
