The Senior Director of the Jim Moran Institute provides visionary leadership, strategic oversight, and statewide operational management to advance JMI’s mission. Reporting directly to the Dean of the Jim Moran College of Entrepreneurship, this position is based in Fort Lauderdale and requires extensive travel throughout Florida, including frequent visits to Tallahassee, to engage stakeholders, support regional teams, and ensure successful program delivery.

The Senior Director will guide institute-wide initiatives, manage daily operations, oversee financial planning, support fundraising, and advisory board activities, and build strong external partnerships. This leadership role is critical to expanding JMI’s statewide impact and long-term sustainability.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Operational & Strategic Leadership Oversee daily administrative operations of JMI and supervise administrative/OPS staff. Streamline processes across all regional offices to ensure efficiency and mission alignment. Represent JMI through public speaking, outreach engagements, and program marketing. Statewide Travel & Program Oversight Conduct extensive statewide travel to support Outreach Directors and regional initiatives. Make frequent trips to Tallahassee to maintain relationships with university leadership, advisory boards, and state-level partners. Attend statewide conferences, business forums, and community events to enhance program visibility. Oversee and optimize travel logistics in accordance with university policies. Strategic Support, Outreach & Long-Range Planning Lead institute-wide special projects and strategic initiatives across Florida. Assist with advisory board strategy, planning, and fundraising activities. Serve as a statewide liaison to small businesses, nonprofits, civic organizations, and university partners. Contribute to long-term sustainability planning beyond 2035 and help integrate PhD students into JMI programming. Financial Management Develop, manage, and monitor the institute’s annual operating budget. Prepare and analyze financial and budget reports. Ensure compliance with FSU Foundation policies and provide fiscal guidance to program teams. Identify new funding and grant opportunities to support JMI’s mission. University & Community Engagement Represent JMI in university-level meetings, business forums, and statewide events. Build and sustain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. Serve as the primary liaison to the Jim Moran College, FSU Foundation, and other university entities.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s degree and brings extensive leadership experience in management, operations, or program administration, demonstrating the ability to guide complex organizational functions effectively. They excel in communication, strategic planning, and critical thinking, enabling them to drive long-range initiatives and support university goals. With a strong background in budgeting and financial reporting, the candidate is adept at overseeing fiscal operations and ensuring compliance with organizational and financial standards. They are highly skilled in building collaborative, productive relationships with various stakeholders across regions and programs. The ideal candidate is also prepared for extensive travel throughout Florida to support statewide initiatives and maintain strong university presence. Preferred attributes include experience in entrepreneurship, nonprofit leadership, economic development, or higher education, as well as a track record of managing multi-site or statewide programs. Additional strengths include donor relations, fundraising, advisory board engagement, and working knowledge of GAAP, university procedures, and grant development.

Education and Experience

Master’s degree and five years of experience related to administrative services; or a Bachelor's degree and seven years of related experience. (Note: a combination of post-high-school education and experience equal to eight years.) Two years of experience must be in a supervisory role.
