Description
The Police Athletic League of Jacksonville (JaxPAL) Driver is responsible for providing safe and timely transportation services to JaxPAL students from school to JaxPAL’s centers and other scheduled field trips. A successful applicant will have a minimum of a high school diploma or G.E.D., current Class E license with a clean driving record, and experience operating a van. This position is seasonal, part-time and works 20 hours per week (afterschool).

RATE: $16.00 hourly
HOURS: Monday- Friday, 12:30 – 4:30 p.m. (may be required to work after hours or weekends)
REPORTS TO: Transportation & Safety Manager
Essential duties and responsibilities
Ability to meet federal/state/company driving standards (may include license verification, drug testing and driver's test). Must meet motor vehicle records clearance requirements. Must be at least 21 years of age. Understand highway traffic signs and signals, respond to official questions, and be able to make legible entries on reports and records. Be able to drive the vehicle safely. Ability to communicate effectively with children, families and staff. Must have compassion for and desire to work with children. Exemplifies appropriate behavior and is a role model for participants; actively listens to all children and shows patience, understanding, and respect for others. Instructs and guides participants through the rules of riding the bus and ensures adherence to JaxPAL established guidelines. Immediately reports all unusual incidents or accidents to the Director of Education and the JaxPAL Transportation & Safety Manager.
Qualifications
Must possess a valid and active driver's license (Class E Driver’s License). Must meet all health requirements as required by licensing and pass Level II criminal background screening. Must pass a drug screening. The position requires the individual to perform a broad range of activities. Requires full range of motion, including manual and finger dexterity and hand and eye coordination. Requires corrected vision, speech, and hearing to normal range, or special accommodations made of sufficient nature for completion of assigned tasks. Ability to lift 40 lbs. Extended standing, bending, stooping, walking, and the ability to move from a seated position to a standing position promptly to respond to emergency situations.
Education and Experience
High School diploma, G.E.D. or higher. Experience driving a van.
Salary/Salary Range
$16.00 per hour
