Position Overview
The Jacksonville Civic Council is seeking an entrepreneurial and innovative Manager or Director of Research to drive our research initiatives, inform strategic decision-making, and extend and deepen JCC’s thought leadership role on public policy issues. This role is ideal for a dynamic professional with a passion for producing impactful research, assembling world-class teams, and delivering high-quality products within short timeframes and limited resources.
Depending on the level of experience, the position will be filled at the level of Manager or Director, and will report to a C-level manager or directly to the CEO. The position will work collaboratively with senior staff, especially the Chief Strategy Officer, to establish and execute the organization’s research priorities.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Research Leadership: Conduct high-impact research on a wide range of public policy topics, including fiscal policy, urban planning, economic development, and quality-of-life issues. Team Building: Identify, recruit, and manage world-class research teams, drawing from both local and global expertise, to collaborate on specific projects. Collaboration: Liaise with universities, research centers, and other institutions in Jacksonville to establish partnerships and enhance the quality and credibility of JCC’s research outputs. Strategic Alignment: Work closely with the CEO and senior staff, especially the Chief Marketing Officer, to align research priorities with organizational goals and civic initiatives. Product Development: Produce both quick-turnaround policy briefs and longer, comprehensive research reports to inform civic discussions and policy decisions. Resource Optimization: Demonstrate entrepreneurial ability to deliver high-quality research products efficiently, maximizing the impact of limited resources. Thought Leadership: Extend and deepen JCC’s thought leadership role on public policy issues through innovative research, compelling analysis, and active engagement in civic discussions.
Education and Experience
Educational Background: Master’s or Ph.D. in public policy, economics, political science, sociology, urban studies, or a related field. Research Expertise: Proven experience producing high-quality research across diverse public policy areas. Collaborative Skills: Demonstrated ability to identify and manage research collaborators, including academics, industry experts, and civic leaders. Versatility: Ability to produce both concise policy briefs and in-depth research papers. Entrepreneurial Drive: Innovative approach to resource management, meeting tight deadlines, and achieving high-impact results. Team Player: Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to fostering a collaborative work environment. Communication: Exceptional writing, presentation, and analytical skills.
