Position Overview
The Jacksonville Civic Council is seeking an experienced and strategic Manager/Director of Advocacy to lead campaigns that educate stakeholders on JCC’s strategic priorities and research findings while influencing decision-makers to adopt sound public policies. This is a dynamic role for a professional with expertise in advocacy, government relations, earned media, and social media, capable of driving impactful campaigns that elevate JCC’s mission and priorities.
The Manager/Director of Advocacy will work closely with the CEO, senior staff, and external partners to ensure campaigns are strategically aligned, impactful, and effectively executed.The level at which the position is filled will depend on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Key Responsibilities Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and lead campaigns to educate key stakeholders, including civic leaders, policymakers, business leaders, and the public, about JCC’s strategic priorities and research findings. Policy Advocacy: Design and implement strategies to persuade decision-makers to adopt policies aligned with JCC’s recommendations and priorities. Government Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with local, state, and federal government officials to advocate for policy changes. Media Strategy: Oversee earned media efforts, ensuring strategic placement of stories, op-eds, and other content in local and national media outlets. Social Media Advocacy: Develop and execute social media strategies to amplify campaigns, engage stakeholders, and broaden JCC’s reach and impact. Team Leadership: Manage consultants, partners, and staff as needed to carry out campaigns effectively. Strategic Alignment: Collaborate with the CEO and senior staff to ensure advocacy efforts align with organizational goals and research findings. Measurement and Reporting: Track the impact of advocacy campaigns and report outcomes to leadership and stakeholders.

Qualifications

Experience: Proven experience in at least two of the following areas: Government Relations: Engaging with policymakers and navigating legislative processes. Earned Media: Crafting media strategies and securing placements in traditional media outlets. Social Media: Developing and executing social media campaigns to drive engagement and advocacy. Advocacy Expertise: Demonstrated ability to design and execute advocacy campaigns that drive policy change. Strategic Thinker: Strong ability to align advocacy efforts with organizational priorities and long-term goals. Communications Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience with public speaking and media relations. Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, media professionals, and community leaders. Entrepreneurial Drive: Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality results within tight deadlines. Team Leadership: Strong leadership skills and experience managing consultants, partners, or staff.

Education and Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in public policy, communications, political science, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
