The Garden Club of Jacksonville (GC) is a 501(c)3 organization which connects, inspires, and empowers generations to contribute positively to the environment while cultivating our community’s sense of belonging. Our programs and services achieve such by nurturing healing, educational, and cultural shared spaces throughout Jacksonville, Florida.
GC seeks a part-time Communications Associate. This position will be based onsite at our Riverside campus. The Communications Associate will report to the Communications Manager. The position retains responsibility for communications tasks, as well as facilitating community and membership engagement. The role will support all organizational functions to ensure programs and outreach are seamlessly integrated into ongoing operations. In addition to bringing their own knowledge and skill sets to these tasks, this role will work collaboratively with the communications team by contributing to legacy and digital media efforts, as well as GC’s website, graphic design, and social media needs.
Essential duties and responsibilities
• Provide project management in support of GC’s initiatives, contributing to the ideation, resourcing, implementation, and evaluation of all assigned programs and membership efforts • Develop, in conversation with GC leadership, event plans for assigned programs to ensure all tasks are anticipated and addressed in a professional manner within any parameters designated • Coordinate comms workflow so that all physical and digital calendars are regularly updated and platforms are current with accurate information for members, partners, and the general public • Coordinate with comms team, volunteers, and vendors to ensure that photography, videography, and other media needs are anticipated and addressed at all GC programs and membership events • Collaborate with leadership and the comms team to create a comprehensive comms strategic plan for GC, across multiple platforms, and both manage and evaluate its implementation • Recommend and facilitate design of all GC web-based and digital resources, ensuring GC’s online presence is current, professional, and effective in supporting members and programs • Anticipate and respond, within established guidelines and with minimal supervision, to any concerns which might arise that could disrupt GC comms and programs activities • Staff events as assigned in support of comms team functions, ensuring run of show, program objectives and parameters, and other comms support is implemented in a professional manner • Produce timely and comprehensive reports, both upon request and in advance given minimal supervision, which account for and monitor GC comms and specific project management needs
Qualifications
• Fluency in office software and technology that is customary to a nonprofit setting, including all components of Microsoft Office suite, Google suite, Adobe, and other standard PC skill sets • Knowledge of graphic and website design, photography and videography, and both use and development of databases to anticipate, assess, and address informational needs • Familiarity with best practices in nonprofit management and comfort with timely reporting • Positive energy, sense of humor, and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse staff • Good judgment, decisiveness, and problem-solving skills with preference for proactive solutions • Discretion and trustworthiness to manage cross-sector relationships and internal teams • Capacity to receive guidance and execute with minimal supervision, operating under deadlines
Education and Experience
• At least 1-3 years of project management and comms experience • At least 1 year of community engagement experience • Bachelor’s Degree or substantive work towards such, or an additional 1-2 years of experience in each preceding point with supervisory experience • Experience managing, tracking, and reporting on communications, marketing, promotional plans
Salary/Salary Range
$20.00 per hour, initially up to 20 hours per week. Regular work hours once onboarded are weekday evenings and Saturday mornings, with flexible hours while onboarding; this is not a hybrid position and will not become one in the near future.
