As CAP’s Board-Certified Music Therapist, you’ll have the unique opportunity to create meaningful change in young lives through the therapeutic application of music. Through your expertise and compassion, you’ll guide students on a journey of inspiration and growth, using music as a powerful tool for emotional expression, development and academic learning.

In this pivotal role, you’ll be at the forefront of expanding CAP’s therapeutic services, implementing evidence-based music therapy interventions and building crucial partnerships within our school communities. This is not just a clinical position, it’s an opportunity to champion growth through music, inspire transformative change, and color outside the lines at the intersection of arts education and therapeutic services.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Your Impact • Engage and Inspire: Directly impact the lives of students through group music therapy services across multiple schools and community sites. Sessions are strategically designed to address emotional, behavioral and developmental needs in group settings, embracing CAP's core value to sing out loud by empowering students to find their collective voice and develop their abilities and confidence through music therapy. • Create and Adapt: Utilize your clinical and musical expertise to develop innovative therapeutic interventions that meet both therapeutic and educational goals. Qualifications

What You Will Bring • Clinical Excellence and Artistic Passion: Board certification in music therapy (MT-BC) and a bachelor’s degree in music therapy or music therapy equivalency from an AMTA-approved program, paired with strong musicianship skills on piano, guitar, voice or musical instrument of choice. A master’s degree in music therapy or related field is welcomed and valued. • Therapeutic Expertise: Demonstrated ability to assess, plan and implement group music therapy interventions for diverse student populations, including those with varying exceptionalities, emotional/behavioral challenges and developmental needs. Experience in school-based or pediatric settings is highly valued. • Group Facilitation Skills: Proven success in leading group music therapy sessions, with the ability to maintain therapeutic value while managing group dynamics. • Collaborative Spirit: Excellence in working with multidisciplinary teams, including teachers, counselors, occupational therapists and other specialists to support comprehensive student care. • Relationship-Focused Leadership: Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with school administrators, classroom teachers and support staff while adapting therapeutic approaches to meet individual student needs. Excellence in becoming an integral part of the school community, participating in school culture and maintaining open communication and goal setting with all stakeholders to ensure program success and student growth. • Resilience and Adaptability: Adept at navigating the challenges that come with integrating music therapy into diverse learning settings. Your resilience helps you adapt session plans to meet the needs of various student populations and deliver high-quality educational experiences under varying conditions. • Commitment to Inclusivity: Dedication to creating inclusive therapeutic environments that celebrate diversity and ensure all students feel valued and supported. • Program Management Excellence: Proven track record in managing multiple site locations, including scheduling, documentation and maintaining consistent communication with all stakeholders. Strong ability to track and complete CAP’s contractual hours while ensuring program quality and therapeutic integrity. • Assessment and Reporting Expertise: Experience in conducting thorough music therapy assessments, establishing measurable goals and providing detailed progress documentation. Skilled in creating and delivering professional reports that effectively communicate student progress and program impact. • Logistical Requirements: Valid driver's license, reliable transportation and ability to pass Level 2 background screening. Flexibility to work a M-F split schedule including both daytime and afterschool hours.

Education and Experience

A Day in the Life • Diverse Session Schedule: Lead both daytime and afterschool music therapy groups across multiple sites. Morning hours focus on school-based programs while afternoons transition to afterschool settings, requiring flexibility and energy management throughout the day. • Balanced Workload: Direct therapeutic services are limited to 20 hours per week, ensuring adequate time for program planning, documentation, collaboration with school staff and administrative responsibilities. • Active Collaboration: Engage with classroom teachers, CAP colleagues and CAPabilities team members to integrate music therapy services into students' educational experiences. • Program Development: Contribute to the growth of CAP's therapeutic services by developing new programs, mentoring colleagues and sharing expertise about working with students with disabilities. Collaboration with teachers and site directors including goal setting and data meetings are an integral part of the position. • Community Connection: Occasionally participate in workshops or community arts events, which strengthen the bond between CAP and the wider community. These activities highlight the role the arts play in fostering community engagement and cultural appreciation. • Reflection and Planning: Complete session documentation, track progress toward therapeutic goals and plan future interventions based on student needs and responses.

Salary/Salary Range

Perks & Benefits • Competitive Compensation: Starting salary ranges from $50,000-$55,000, adjustable based on your experience.
