Objective
To secure new and renewed funding opportunities that support OneJax’s mission, strategic goals, and programmatic initiatives by identifying, writing, and submitting competitive grant proposals and reports to foundations, corporations, and government funders.
Position Title: Contract Grant Writer
Reports To: Director of Communications and Development
Contract Type: Independent Contractor
Contract Period: July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2026
Compensation: $75/hour, on a per-project basis
Essential duties and responsibilities
Scope of Work & Deliverables: • The Contract Grant Writer will: Grant Prospecting • Research and identify local, regional, and national grant opportunities aligned with OneJax’s mission and funding priorities. • Develop and maintain a calendar of grant deadlines and submission requirements. Proposal Development • Lead the preparation and writing of compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry (LOIs), and supporting documents. • Tailor narrative and data to meet specific funder priorities. • Collaborate with program and leadership staff to gather program details, impact data, and budget needs. • Ensure all submissions are well-written, accurate, complete, and timely. Grant Reporting • Draft interim and final grant reports, ensuring timely and accurate submission per funder requirements. • Track deadlines for all post-award reporting in collaboration with OneJax staff. Funding Strategy Support • Contribute to the development of a short- and long-term grant strategy in alignment with OneJax’s strategic plan. • Provide regular updates on submitted, awarded, and pending grants. Offer recommendations for funder cultivation and stewardship where applicable. Administrative & Collaborative Support • Maintain records of all proposals, grant correspondence, and reporting in shared systems (e.g., OneDrive, Google Drive, CRM). • Participate in periodic virtual or in-person check-ins with staff to ensure alignment and progress. • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in representing OneJax. Evaluation and Payment Terms • Work will be reviewed monthly based on deliverables, deadlines met, and quality of submissions. • Payment terms: Based on invoices submitted upon completion of deliverables. • Contractor is responsible for their own taxes and benefits.
Qualifications
Qualifications • Proven experience writing successful grant proposals for nonprofit organizations. • Strong understanding of nonprofit funding structures, particularly in education, interfaith, youth development, and community engagement sectors. • Exceptional writing, editing, and research skills. • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines. • Familiarity with budget preparation and basic grant financials. • Experience with funder databases and CRM tools preferred.
