Founded in 1994, JASMYN’s staff of over 25 provides a comprehensive continuum of youth development programs, housing supports, mental health services and health services with a focus on HIV testing, risk reduction counseling, medical linkage for youth living with HIV (YLWH), and a sexual health clinic that also provides PrEP care coordination.
We are seeking to hire a HIV Tester and Program Support Specialist to conduct daily/nightly HIV testing, counselling on and off campus and support JASMYN programming for LGBTQIA+ teens (13-17) and young adults (18-29).
This position is a direct service position interfacing with LGBTQIA+ teens and young adults. Direct means conducting rapid HIV testing, supporting JASMYN youth and direct service programs. This is a full-time 40 hours per week position.
Essential duties and responsibilities
HIV Testing & Sexual Health Clinic • Conduct rapid HIV testing on a daily/nightly basis, including pre- and post-test counseling both on and off JASMYN Campus • Link young adults at risk for HIV to Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) on and off JASMYN campus • Advocacy, resource gathering, referral, linkage and follow-up • Work JASMYN sexual health clinic • Support teen sexual health education and HIV prevention activities at JASMYN • Support young adult sexual health education and HIV prevention activities at JASMYN • Support young adult at risk for HIV in applying for Medical Assistance Program (MAP) for PrEP medication Outreach & Marketing • Utilize the Social Network Strategy (SNS) to engage young adults and their partners and/or friends for HIV testing • Contribute to the development of outreach/marketing material for HIV testing, Sexual Health Clinic, and other sexual health • Outreach via text, email, phone calls and other social media that is tailored to teens and young adults vulnerable or at high risk for HIV • Onsite Outreach at JASMYN Safe Space & Youth Engagement Programming • Support the creation of a safe and engaging social space for LGBTQIA+ teens and young adults of color • Support the creation and facilitation of a Community Advisory Board that will inform and provide input into safe space programming for LGBTQIA+ youth of color Data Collection & Reporting • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel • Data entry • Document and report all services according to all requirements as required by JASMYN polices and standards • Provide monthly reports as related to HIV testing and Outreach roles and responsibilities Additional Essential Duties • Participate as a member of the JASMYN team in supporting all JASMYN programs and services for high-risk youth, including group facilitation, outreach and enrollment, drop in center and clinic staffing • Adherence to HIPAA law to ensure participant confidentiality and privacy at all times. • Participate in all meetings and trainings as required • Perform other essential duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Comfortability conducting HIV testing and counseling on a daily/nightly basis • Experience using various social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.) for high-level outreach and advertisement • Experience and/or knowledge with HIV prevention, testing and treatment services. • Experience and/or knowledge of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) prevention, testing, and treatment services. • Experience and/or knowledge of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention • Experience and/or knowledge of Non-Occupational Post Exposure Prophylaxis (nPEP) for HIV prevention • Comfortability talking to teens and young adults about sexual health in an affirming and healthy manner • Ability to relate to teens and young adults in an accepting, positive and healthy manner • Demonstrated experience in positive youth development. • Familiarity and sensitivity in dealing with the unique needs of LGBTQIA+ teens and young adults. • Ability to work with a diverse and dynamic staff and excel in a multi-cultural environment. • Ability to effectively deliver strength-based, trauma-informed, and harm reduction services • Strong assessment skills and ability to document and prioritize needs • Ability to gather resources and referral • Desire to make a positive impact in the lives of LGBTQIA+ teens and young adults. • Desire to be a part of a dynamic team supporting LGBTQIA+ teen and young adults. • Current driver’s license and clean driving record • Must pass criminal background checks • Bilingual in English and Spanish or Portuguese language is a plus
Education and Experience
• BA in social work or a related field such as public health, social welfare or psychology from an accredited university preferred, OR equivalent demonstrated work experience. • Certified in HIV testing and counseling preferred. Training in evidence-based interventions for HIV positive youth is a plus!
Salary/Salary Range
$17-19 per hour
