Summary
The role of the Senior Director, Development is to support the mission, vision, and values of Sulzbacher, working with leadership to set annual revenue goals and mobilizing both staff and volunteers to achieve these goals. The Senior Director, Development focuses on three major revenue areas: donor engagement and stewardship, special events and program awareness/marketing. The Senior Director, Development provides the support necessary to achieve the greatest outcomes in the maximization of revenue, assists in setting benchmarks for each discrete revenue source and provides leadership for operations of the Sulzbacher Development Department.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Supervisory Responsibilities Volunteer Coordinator Others, as needed/assigned Essential Duties and Responsibilities This position has Four major areas of focus as follows: 1. Internal Leadership a. Ensures that revenue generating activities are carried out in keeping with the agency’s values, mission, vision, and strategic plan. b. Anticipates changes in the landscape of non-profit revenue sources and develops a flexible and responsive culture within the agency to respond to these changes. c. Develops cooperative working relationships with both nonprofit and corporate entities to form partnerships for revenue generating opportunities. d. Engages people in the process of revenue generation, encourages questioning, and promotes participatory decision-making. e. Assist in maintaining a working environment that is rewarding to staff and volunteers. f. Positively represents the agency to the Board, donors, volunteers, the media, and all other stakeholders. 2. Private Funding a. Meets an annual goal for private donations to the agency through fundraising activities including events, major gifts, online and individual donations. b. Ensures the development of and compliance with sound fundraising policies and procedures. c. Attracts, retains, and motivates donors and fundraising volunteers and leadership. d. Works with leadership to implement sound planning including goal setting, strategy identification, benchmarking, and evaluation to support private fundraising. e. Ensures sound fiscal operations of all private fundraising activities including budgeting reporting, implementation. f. Along with Board members, Sulzbacher Executive Team, and other fundraising volunteers, identifies, and solicits charitable gifts. g. Maintenance of donor and prospect records and the donor database. h. Implementation of an ongoing recognition program for private donors. 3. Donor Relations/Events a. Cultivate and build relationships with donors, in-kind donors, and partner agencies through regular communications, including phone calls, e-mails, and other means of contact. b. Responsibility as team lead on Transformations, and all other events as assigned. c. Responsibility as team lead on all internal events. d. Responsible for the design/layout of the direct mail fundraising campaign. e. Responsible for the planning and execution of donor engagement activities. f. Work as an integral part of Sulzbacher's development team, including but not limited to educational tours, volunteer, and donor recruitment events, such as Transformations, Give a Good Night, Legacy Giving, Annual/Monthly Giving, and other fundraising efforts and the Organization’s activities. g. Create special recognition for extraordinary gifts. h. Responsible for coordinating Holiday and Special Event thank you for exceptional donors. i. Research new funding and fundraising opportunities for the Organization. j. Represent the Organization by providing on-site tours and participating in and scheduling the CEO and other staff for off-site public speaking engagements, events, and fairs to educate the community about homelessness, raise awareness about Sulzbacher and its programs and to promote volunteer and donor support of the organization. k. Present a positive public image of Sulzbacher. 4. Marketing a. Responsible for developing, maintaining, and managing the design and production of all Sulzbacher’s marketing materials and products. b. Developing public awareness campaigns to raise the agency’s public profile and promote current and future programs and plans. c. Responsible for all aspects of the Agency newsletter. d. Responsible for managing bids for marketing, print and design work. e. Manage the agency’s social media accounts and create organic social media campaigns to raise the public profile of the agency and promote its programs to the community. f. Solicit earned media to raise the agency’s profile and promote its programs to the community. g. In partnership with the CEO and Board of Directors, manage all aspects of the agency’s brand including logos, visuals, print and digital materials. h. Responsible for coordinating Give a Good Night sales activities. i. Maintain relationships with and manage design/print vendors to ensure timely delivery of services. j. Develop and research new opportunities for fundraising. k. Support the activities of Sulzbacher’s development department, including but not limited to educational tours, volunteer and donor recruitment events, Give a Good Night, Transformations, holiday food and gift drives and other fundraising efforts and the organization’s activities. l. Responsible for managing the planning for Transformations event program and collaterals. m. Responsible for managing contracts and vendors for Development events. n. Maintain relationships with community partners, including other non-profit agencies and sponsors. o. Develop and review Development team budget with the President, Hope Division and Finance department.
Qualifications
• Extensive knowledge of the nonprofit sector including compliance, generation of revenue, marketing, programming, and current trends. • Excellent strategic planning and organizational management skills. • Excellent oral and written communication skills. • Excellent leadership skills and the ability to develop and motivate a highly functioning team of both staff and volunteers. • The ability to positively represent the agency both internally and externally to all identified stakeholders. • Advanced computer skills including fluency in a variety of nonprofit software systems. • Ability to pass a Level II Background Screening Physical/Mental Demands and Working Conditions • Must have a valid Florida drivers license and reliable transportation • Physically able to work in a fast-paced environment. • Able to lift up to 30 pounds
Education and Experience
• At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in the nonprofit sector.
