Position Summary:
Some Veterans experiencing homelessness are hesitant to obtain or participate in services offered through the SSVF Program and/or from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). This could mean Veteran households are missing out on housing and healthcare benefits for their long-term safety and stability. The role is intended to be staffed by a Veteran to bridge that divide whose background may include experiencing homelessness.
The SSVF Peer Specialist will focus on connecting Veterans households to SSVF Program, VA, and/or community support and resources. This interaction can include regular engagement and motivational interviewing to facilitate program and resource connections, even discussing shared military and homelessness experiences.
