Description
FCWS is seeking a Development Director to oversee activities to support the pro-life work in the greater Jacksonville area. The Development Director, in conjunction with the Chief Executive Officer, communicates a shared vision with community stakeholders to enhance the organization’s capacity and reach. Plans, implements, and coordinates fundraising efforts and community activities that will increase philanthropic support to meet the short-term and long-term needs of the organization.
Essential duties and responsibilities
1. Leader a. Information bearer to the Chief Executive Officer. b. Looks to the future for change and growth opportunities. c. Interfaces and cultivates relationships between the Chief Executive Officer, the ministry, and the organization’s donor base. 2. Decision Maker a. Oversees the design, implementation, and management of all fundraising activities including annual giving, endowment and capital campaigns, special projects, and other solicitations. b. Formulates policies and planning recommendations for the Chief Executive Officer. c. Decides or guides courses of action in operations in the Development Department. 3. Manager a. Prepares an annual development plan for the development activities within the community; when complete, such plan will include those goals designated by the Board of Directors, the objectives and activities consistent with those goals, a model for evaluating effectiveness, and budgetary requirements. b. In conjunction with the CEO, designs, implements, coordinates, and evaluates programs in the following areas of fund development: annual giving, major gifts, planned giving special events and other ongoing activities. Conducts thorough prospect research and identification activities for the organization; devises and implements specific strategies to develop relationships with individual donors, churches, para-church organizations, and corporations. c. Oversees grant applications to appropriate foundations and governmental agencies. Oversees direct donor solicitation. d. Reports, in a timely manner, the monthly and annual progress, effectiveness and efficiency of development programs conducted by the organization; identifies problems in meeting objectives and recommends solutions. e. Develops and maintains a working knowledge of computer software programs specifically designed to facilitate accurate donor and prospect information. f. Analyzes data reports to determine effectiveness of fundraising efforts and determine future strategies. g. Manages systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including our donor database. h. Fosters donor engagement through strategic cadence of mail and digital communications, including donor on-boarding and lapsed-donor campaigns. i. Accepts assignments not specifically delineated above as requested by the Board of Directors and/or Chief Executive Officer. 4. Staff Development a. Manages department office staff to include fundraising, marketing, and event planning and assists in the selection and evaluation of staff. b. Makes recommendations, supports Chief Executive Officer during orientation and self-evaluation. c. Supports Chief Executive Officer’s evaluation process by completing self evaluation and evaluation of staff. 5. Public Relations a. Develops and maintains strong working relationships with key contacts within the community, this includes businesses, civic groups, churches and philanthropic prospects; identifies potential fundraising opportunities within these groups and recommends a course of action for entering these markets. b. Represents the organization in civic organizations and other public forums to enhance development efforts and potential expansion efforts of the organization. c. Works closely with the Chief Executive Officer to develop the organization’s public relations and marketing efforts in all areas.
Qualifications
A dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior A sense of vision and calling to the FCWS ministry and the pro-life movement A seasoned nonprofit or ministry leader with 5-7 years' experience in development including fundraising. Bachelor's degree Demonstrated experience as a team manager and/or member within the context of a shared strategic vision Ability to lead and direct others Demonstrated experience with grant writing, grant reporting and technical writing. Excellent skills in interpersonal communication, public speaking, and problem solving Experience with donor management systems and proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing software. Ability to develop a comprehensive annual development plan
Education and Experience
Works well leading a collaborative, team-based structure. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and coordinate projects with internal and external constituents. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations. Excellent follow-through skills, results-oriented, works well in a cross-functional environment. High level of proficiency with Fund Easy, Microsoft Office Suite (Word & Publisher), Canva, and E-tapestry.
Salary/Salary Range
$60,000-$65,000
