Purpose of the Position:

The Director of Marketing and Communication will work collaboratively with all United Way of Northeast Florida departments to support the operations of the marketing and communications department and management of all departments’ marketing and communication needs. The Director will oversee departmental marketing and communication projects across the organization. This includes the development and management of project plans, marketing collateral and online communications to effectively convey the positive impact United Way of Northeast Florida has on our community and inspire new audiences to give and volunteer. In collaboration with all departments, the Director will develop and consistently deliver marketing and communications tactics and messages that are meaningful to and will help in recruiting, stewarding and retaining donors, volunteers and partner organizations.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Operations and Project Management • Serve as the Marketing liaison for all United Way departments and collaborates with staff leads to oversee and execute project management plans for each department and/or departmental project. • Regularly meet with each department to understand their priorities and develop and manage project plans that will help departmental achieve goals. • Develop internal communication plans, tools and messages. In partnership with the Digital Strategies Manager, responsible for ensuring Intranet content is up-to-date. • In collaboration with Resource Development, help stabilize donor churn and acquire new donors through crafting and implementing donor stewardship and acquisition plans. • Work with our Volunteer and Community Engagement Team on increasing the awareness of the Volunteer Hub and planning of signature volunteer events. • Meet regularly with our Full Service Schools, 988, 211, Mission United and RealSense teams to develop and implement annual marketing plans to increase their reach and impact. • Ensure the implementation of and maximize the use of tools that enable the organization to better understand our audiences and the messages to which they respond. • As needed, support Vice President of Marketing and Communications with messaging trainings, including but not limited to speaker, staff and new- hire trainings. • Serve on the Senior Leadership Team. Marketing and Communications Creative Production • Create, implement and measure the success of year-round communications, promotional plans and advertising materials that clearly articulate United Way’s work and its relevance to our community. • Develop powerful stories reflecting the impact of United Way and its partners; share the stories in manner that effectively demonstrates the contributions of donors and volunteers are changing lives in Northeast Florida. • Serve as writer and/or editor for messaging needs for each department, including but not limited to direct mail, recognition pieces and brochures. Ensures these messages are accurate and delivered on deadline. • In partnership with the Digital Strategies Manager, develop a strong, strategic online presence in which United Way is where our targeted audiences are; lead the generation of online content that engages audience segments and moves them to take measurable action (greater commitment, more donors, more volunteers, more people served). Based on analytics, recommend who, where and when to disseminate. • Serve as a writer and editor for the organization's website, volunteer hub and giving platforms to ensure they are up-to-date, on brand, contain engaging content, and accurately and effectively describes United Way’s work. • Serve as planning and messaging consultant and/or lead planner for all external events. • First-draft writer of brochures, award nominations and advertisements. • Other duties as assigned. Employee and Vendor Management • Supervise and mentor two direct reports: The Digital Strategies Manager and Creative Services Manager. • Oversee paid media vendors and freelance writers. • In partnership with the Creative Services Manager, vet and oversee freelance photographers. • In partnership with the Digital Strategies Manager, vet and oversee web developers, videographers and other digital vendors. • Provide guidance to direct reports on intern selection and management. • Work with the Vice President of Marketing and Communications to determine best staffing plans to accomplish departmental objectives. Provide direction, training, support and coaching to interns and seasonal staff, as needed. • Managerial responsibilities may be adjusted as needed. Paid Media Management • Oversee media buyer paid media plans, including but not limited to Community Impact initiative advertising, corporate recognition, sponsorship benefits fulfillment and awareness/donor acquisition. • Manage and build relationships with advertising sales leads to develop negotiable ad-buy opportunities. • Evaluate and measures the effectiveness of advertising campaigns. • Serve as the lead writer for all advertisements and manages the ad design and review process. External Partnerships • Serve as communications lead for Florida’s First Coast Relief Fund, overseeing website management, donor communications, final report writing and the dissemination thereof. • Participate on United Way of Florida and United Way Worldwide marketing and communications calls/webinars, as able.

Education and Experience

Experience/Qualifications: • Ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages, and disseminate it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels • Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications strategies and tactics, with an emphasis on cultivating a strong online presence • Strong working knowledge of current social media trends, platforms, viral engagement and online marketing practices • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills with knowledge of AP Style • Exceptional time management, organization, oral communication and interpersonal skills • Strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently • Data-driven decision-maker that uses data to inform strategies, tactics and project priorities across all audiences • Relationship builder with the flexibility and finesse to manage multiple internal clients and external audiences • High energy, maturity and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels • Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants and other supporters • Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing strategies and tactics that get results • Openness to constructive feedback, continued learning and innovation • BA/BS degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations or related field • Five or more years of progressive experience in communications, media relations, public relations and/or journalism • Two or more years of supervisory experience • Mastery of computer software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Salary/Salary Range

83,000 to 88,000
