JOB DESCRIPTION: A dynamic and growing mental health support organization, the National Alliance on Mental Illness
(NAMI), serving Duval, Clay, Baker, and Nassau Counties, is seeking an experienced Outreach Coordinator as a Part Time
Employee in a non-clinical mental health setting. The Outreach Coordinator will report to the Program Manager and is
responsible for providing non-clinical, evidenced-based peer-support services and leadership at NAMI Jacksonville and
throughout Northeast Florida. Tasks performed as an Outreach Coordinator include serving as vital link between NAMI
Jacksonville and local community building and nurturing relationships and educating and connecting individuals with
NAMI Jacksonville’s peer services.
Essential duties and responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES: General • Act as a liaison between NAMI Jacksonville and the local community, building and nurturing relationships with individuals, organizations, agencies • Consider yourself a peer to an individual or a family member with a mental health diagnosis, who is stable and who can maintain healthy boundaries with peers • Cultivate an environment of belonging and empowerment • Maintain confidentiality and HIPPA requirements • Provide direct support to the Program Manager and perform tasks assigned by the Program Manager • Attend additional professional development opportunities as recommended by the Program Manager • All other duties as assigned RESPONSIBILITIES: Program Management • Become trained to deliver engaging presentations in the community on behalf of NAMI Jacksonville, effectively conveying the organization\'s mission and goals • Build relationships with individuals, corporations, foundations, and local government leaders by concentrating efforts on funding NAMI Jacksonville’s services by private donors, charitable foundations, grants, and giving • Act as a donor steward for NAMI Jacksonville • Gather information about community needs in preparation of new proposed services • Support volunteer development including recruitment, interviewing, and training program volunteers • Conduct research to identify suitable venues and spaces for peer program activities, considering accessibility, safety, and convenience for participants • Coordinate with administrators to book spaces for peer program activities, securing necessary permits or arrangements as needed. • Plan, coordinate, promote and enhance NAMI programs, including adherence to program policies and guidelines, paperwork requirements, and problem-solving • Provide support and technical assistance to those implementing education programs and attending programs • Oversee distribution of program materials required by program leaders and participants • Ensure NAMI standards and program requirements are met • Work closely with the Peer Program Coordinator and Family Program Coordinator • Adhere to privacy policies and demonstrate strict confidentiality regarding member or staff information Communication and Outreach • Plan and organize presentations in the community, for organizations, law enforcement, behavioral health facilities, and schools for example, educating various groups about mental health issues, resources, and NAMI Jacksonville’s services • Participate in health fair tabling events, where you will represent NAMI Jacksonville, provide information, and engage with the public to promote mental health awareness and our services • Attend community partner meetings to learn about community resources, services, and share NAMI program information • Increase program collaborations and partnerships through key stakeholders and constituencies • Attend NAMI community meetings to inform and to promote NAMI • Create, update, manage, and distribute outreach and publicity material • Develop and manage communications to ensure program-related materials and other communications are prepared and disseminated effectively • Assist social media manager with social media efforts and marketing of programs • Assist in planning and implementation efforts for community events, including NAMIWalks • Assist in development of NAMI newsletters • Answer phone calls, respond to emails, and provide information to individuals seeking assistance or resources • Other work as appropriate to promote and strengthen NAMI Jacksonville’s work and leadership role in the mental health and wellness community Database Management • Review and record program evaluations • Gather and collect data from programs • Maintain NAMI Jacksonville program database for volunteers, program tracking, and program leaders and data, as required by NAMI’s systems • Assist with administrative tasks, including data entry, record-keeping, and maintaining program-related documents
Qualifications
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • Support a growing a non-profit organization • Excellent attention to detail and ability to self-manage completion of tasks • Time management skills and ability to adapt to changing situations and manage multiple priorities • Understanding of and sensitivity to the issues faced by individuals and families impacted by mental illness • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to establish and maintain strong working relationships with culturally diverse volunteers and members, their families, and caregivers as well as a wide range of community agencies and organizations • Self-motivation to problem solve and address issues • Ability to manage large ongoing projects to produce desired outcomes • Ability to maintain timely record keeping and report writing • Represent NAMI professionally and courteously at community venues • Computer literacy: ability to work with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and maintain Databases, and to organize shared files • Willingness to travel throughout Northeast Florida, requiring use of a personal vehicle • Willingness to work evenings and weekends on occasion • Ability to walk, bend, sit, talk, hear, repetitive motion of wrist, hands and/or fingers, lifting 25 pounds, kneel, stoop, reach, push and pull
Education and Experience
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience • Experience working in program management, volunteer management, community networking and data reporting • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, maintaining Databases, and organizing shared files required; Knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Canva, Constant Contact preferred • Experience and knowledge, personal or professional, about working with individuals and families affected by mental illness beneficial
Salary/Salary Range
SALARY: Job Type: Part-time/Non-Exempt Salary: $22.00 Hourly Rate Traditional medical benefits not provided; We do provide generous paid time off, hybrid work, paid parking, cell phone allowance, training and development opportunities, and a 401K matching contribution, all in an inclusive and rewarding workplace and setting. Schedule: 20 hours per week; varied based on programs and community events License/Certification: Driver\'s License (Required) Work Location: Main office in downtown Jacksonville, Outreach mainly in Nassau and Baker counties or other locations as needed; Travel required
